Had a customer bring over a new XBOX, along with the Maxtor 120 that came out of their old BOX... long out of commission.
The new XBOX shows a harddrive error when viewing from EvolutionX... it will neither unlock nor show me the contents. The drive is a Maxtor 6Y120L0.
As you can guess, I cannot locate a method to either view the password on the Maxtor, nor unlock it. I tried HDDUNLOCK and HDDISABLE, to no avail (oddly enough, when I used the password of TEAMASSEMBLY in HDDUNLOCK, the computer replied with a "DONE", but the "L" was still checked in ATAPWD).
Anyone had any success either unlocking an aftermarket drive without knowing the password, or figure out how to format a drive when in this condition?
Preciate any thoughts.

I have had that happen to one of my stock XBox hard drives and to a seagate 120 and i think one more. I tried just about every utility I could find to unlock the HD so that they could be used in a XBox or back in a PC but they are still Paper Weights on my desk. Some of the util's said that they unlocked them but they are still useless.
But don't give up hope. If anyone can help you with the problem you will find them here. I just got a bit lazy on this problem and purchased all new ones.

I get to EvolutionX via a boot disc. The console has a DuoX2 chip in it, which allows this.
From within EvoX, in the Settings tab (when I try to view the contents of the drive) I get the harddrive error... "unlock error".
