Hey all, I am unsure how many of you are quick soldering LT OPX chips to the 1.6 mobo's...(this also goes for X-Changer V2 Mod Chips), so I figured I'd throw this out there again. I mentioned this a couple months ago, but recently I have had two more machines have this issue arise so it's again fresh in my mind.
The LT OPX and X-ChangerV2 mod chips install without a pin header on 1.6 motherboards. Keep in mind, that this is only for 1.6 installs. Instead of the pin header, the mod chip solders directly against the underside of the mobo. This is very innovative because not only does it install with only 8 solder points, but it also handles the LPC rebuild all in one quick and easy install.
Well, what is happening is this. As most of you are aware the little pads and holes that the chip solders onto are very tiny. The only thing holding this chip to the board is the little bit of solder that you use on each point....and trust me, it's miniscule!!
What has been happening is, after the machine has been used for awhile...and the machine has heated/cooled, heated/cooled, heated/cooled for a month or so, the chip tends to separate from the board because the solderpoints are substantial enough to hold it.
I am personally going to try to get away from the quicksolder method because I have had four machines do this to me and I am not real happy that I have my customers inconvenienced. Even though I can fix it rather quickly, it still puts their machine down for at least a week while it's being shipped back and forth.
To combat this issue what I have been doing is prepping the motherboard solder points with solder before I lay the chip down and line up the points. Then, when I am soldering the chip to the board, I am not just soldering to little points. I am actually soldering to solder that has already made a nice solid joint to the points.
I am also leaving two pieces of electrical tape to hold the chip against the board while I am soldering. In most cases, I don't even bother to remove the tape after soldering is complete.
I dont know about the X Changer V2 chip, but you can indeed use a pin header with the LT OPX. Just make sure you rip off the RDO tab otherwise your eject button will not work.
Well, I hope this info comes in handy for anyone installing the SmartXX LT OPX or X-Changer V2 mod chip into a 1.6 Xbox.
Good luck, feel free to post any questions.

You wont have any issues whatsover in the 1.0...
The chip is flawless really! Just take your time if you are quicksoldering on the 1.6 board. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

Nah, the Sunday will go on the 1.0.
The X Changer is going on my 1.6
Can the x2 bios fit on there. Or do you absolutely need that OS. From the website, they add the Flash= command line for the EVoX.ini file, so I could just reflash using that. _________________ XBOX v1.6
