hello all.. this is my first post here : YAY!!
but anyway, i just put in a X3 in my box and im loving it!
i found an old 17 gb drive to put in for the meantime till i get a new one...(or one i already have)
for my main question... does it really matter that a HDD is not lockable?
the HDD that im using now does not lock and everything is koo? runs great.
im looking to put my 250gb drive from my pc into my box.. and if its not lockable it should not do anything correct?
thanx in advance.

well if the drive is not lockable you will not be able to use the ms dash or live for a fact. i dont know if it will work for other stuff. _________________ XBOX

You ONLY need a lockable hard drive to use the MS bios...not the MS dash.. you can launch MS dash whether your HD is locked or not. Just easily launch it from evox if your HD is unlocked.
The thing is this... for you to be able to login to Xbox Live you MUST launch the MS bios. The original MS Bios (also called Retail Kernel) does a few checks before it loads the dash. The one main thing it does is check to see if the hard drive is locked. If the hard drive is not locked, it will freeze and give you error code 05.
This is how MS checks to make sure you aren't using an unlocked hd. MS originally locked their HDs in effort to keep ppl from throwing them on a PC and extracting files.
So, if you never plan on going on Xbox Live with your mod, then don't worry if HD is lockable or not. BUT, if you are planning on playing on XBL then you MUST have a lockable drive..
I hope that helps shed some light on the subject.
