Posted: Mon May 02, 2005 6:26 pm Post subject: X2 lite problem - ready for bios update, dash
Ok, I bought a second Xbox from someone online, I checked it as soon as I got it to make sure it worked. It loaded up regular xbox dash, and when the swich was fliped to Enable [Mod], it loaded the chip (X2 lite) with the CROMWELL bios.
After loading for a couple of seconds it said "Insert CD/dvd, ready for bios update.
I thought everything was cool, and it needed the dash. (this is what the person who sold it to me said it needed) but I did not have time to install the dash, so I figured I would do it later. (I loaded it several times back to back to make sure it worked consistantly).
A few days later (today) I tried to load it up, it worked in normal Xbox dash, but when it is swiched to Enable [Mod chip] it loads for about 1/2 second, shuts off, loads for 1/2 second again, then the light blinks red/green, never loading anything on the screen.
TV does not even detect anything being sent to it (static the whole time).
I have not done anything with it since I tested it a few days ago, and have not inserted cd's or changed settings at all. I have not used it, period.
Someone help me!

Ok, I figured out the major problem. The chip connection was bad (I read another post from someone with the same problem) BUT I still need help. I got the xbox back to where it was at first. It boots up, says in the top left
Flash BIOS (cromwell 2.28 dev)
[here it lists HD and DVD drive version]
Please Insert CD - Flashing Mode
the chip is a no solder chip, and says X2 lite in the swich board. My question is
What Do I do Now? I have had a soft-modded xbox for a while now, but I have No Idea what to put on a CD now to put into the drive after a chip is installed.
please help

It just sounds like to me you need to get a bios on the mod chip. Cromwell of course won't allow you to launch evox..
Just sounds like you need to create a bios CD and flash your chip. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I have been cheating so far by buying modded xboxs that are ready-to-play so I don't know how to do anything myself. I have looked at some manuals but I don't see how to make the bios CD.
I have been scanning other forums/tutorials and have not found the info I need yet. Ihave never made a bios CD. do I just put the info on a cd? How do I make it readable to the xbox? do I download an ISO. [if there is another forum, please link to it]
Also, another common problem people seem to have, but I have not seen the answer to for my chip, is the proper swich configuration. I just have three swiches. Enable/Disable [the mod chip], Protected/Unprotected [I believe this is for Live], and bank1/bank2 [no idea what this is. If I could just find a tutorial for my chip, I wold probably be in good shape.
Thanks everyone.

Hey, I'm pretty sure I can help you with this.
First, the switches.....Protect/Unprotect locks down your Bios to prevent it from being overwritten. To use Live, you have to disable the chip and play with a regular disc. As for the bank1/2, those are the two baks you can use for your BIOS. It lets you have 2 bioses on at once.
Now to flash your Bios, Create a CD with the bios you want to use(rename it to bios.bin), and add a dummy file (anyfile that is around 200MB i think). Then just put the disc in when it asks for it. It should flash i and off you go. _________________ "Modding the world, one xbox at a time"

Thanks a lot for your help! That worked (I think), the key was renaming the file to bios.bin. It was not reading the file untill I did that.
Well now what? It says loading bios, and says the the xbox will shut off after update is finished (and it does) then I power it back up and it askes for the same thing!
I have my Evox disc, and I created it according to this...
...tutorial, but it wont boot up, the chip gives me the message
No Bios Detected... Halting!!!
I am not sure if the bios properly updated or not. It appears to update to 100%, and auto-boots off, just like it is supposed to, but no change is apparant.
When I reboot, it looks exactly the same, and gives my no option to do anything except update the bios again.
-Thanks for your help so far Connor 2K

definitely sounds like it didn't update the BIOS. Make sure you are using a known good BIOS that is the correct size. 1MB. Also make sure the switches are set correctly. _________________ "Modding the world, one xbox at a time"

I am using the EvoxM7_ef.bin file that came with the EvoX build 3935 file, available from the VIP downloads.
I did not install the chip, so I have no idea about the swiches. Is there someplace that tells the specifications about the arrangement of the swiches for each version of the Xbox?

the external switches should be set accordingly.

Ok... My swiches have been correct. I have tried multiple bios.bin files. The evoX file included in the dash downlad, and FlashBIOS v3.03, which I aquired from the VIP downloads section of this site as well. This is what I did EXACTLY. I booted the xbox after double checking the swiches. It booted and said:
FlashBIOS (Cromwell 2.28 dev) (C) 2002-2003 XBL Customized by Xecuter ([some Web site here])
ATA 28bit Support Only
[HD and Samsung DVD/CD drive info here]
Please insert CD - Flashing mode
At this point I put in the CD with 50 meg of dummy space and the bios.bin file, and the CD starts to boot.
Flash Updating Do not touch the xbox while this is happening, blah, blah, the xbox will turn off after the update is complete, blah, blah
(if I insert anything except a BIOS CD, it said No BIOS found... HALTING!
The xbox turned off, channel 3 popped up and I watched Elmo's World for an min, then turned the Xbox back on. Exact same as top, the box acted like nothing happened.
So, I went into the kitchen, made a Jack-n-Coke, and came in here to cry to you...
Damn, I suck
What do you suggest? Can you suggest a proper BIOS file?
