Man, I was talking to a friend of mine today and we were both marveling over how I have not got a 1.6b, or a Hitachi DVD rom drive yet.
Wouldn't you know. I just opened up a machine ten minutes ago and it has the Hitachi drive.
Manufacture date 01-31-2005 is on the bottom of the Xbox..
Now to check the RAM...lol.

I am now checking out the performance of this drive. It actually seems faster than the Sammy or the Phillips. I am using AID and installing all emulators right now. **Note** I have over 2000 commodore 64 roms included in my AID 1.0.1 so mine takes longer than the standard AID does. So, I have it on a timer, then after this mod I have another mod to do that is also a 1.6, but this one has a Sammy in it...not the Hitachi.
I am going to time the same disk doing the same install to see which is faster...
Oh man, I have wayyyyy too much time on my hands..

cool ,
i had this drive in a 1.6 i aquired a few month allready but i havent even used it yet , i was gonna test some softmods for djb on it ,before i got to it all the testing was already done , then i was gonna put the spice on it so i got it from lycz....something guy on here but he refounded the money after a week saying that he cant ship it right now ,,....so the xbox still sits unused couse i dont feel like rebuilding the lpc
now ..are u using the ata133 cable?

roms on the server? I spent most of last night trying to find c64 games
to download.

I am using the regular IDE cable, but have crap loads of ata's laying around.

One thing I noticed with the Hitachi DVD is that it plays Memorex DVD+R, don't know about other brands though... _________________ XBOX v1.6:

I have found the Hitachi plays pretty well all dvdr's so probs. Plays no cdr-r's however. I also found it is quite fast. Reliabillity - I guess time will tell.
The current model samsung would be the my least prefered of the current model drives. Samsungs have always been rather slow, and now the new ones don't read cd-r's anymore.
My most prefered is the current model phillips drive. _________________ V1.4
