ok i installed an X3 chip with a pin headder install and i flashed the chip but in the bottom left where it says config live and all that good stuff it says something about controller port 1 and none of the controller ports work. we even tried using a keyboard cuz i have usb on my xbox but they don't work either(thats how i flashed my chip i used a keyboard to select my options). my xbox is at a xbox repair place they installed the chip for me and i been in there everyday tryin 2 figure this out but no controllers will work.... they also have only been trying a mad catz controller i dunno if that has something to do with it or not

Well, I would think you could use an aftermarket controller, but I have only begun to install the X3's so I am not sure.

The very first chip I ever used was the Xenium blue (prior to the ice) and you could only use an MS Controller with that chip. It was probably the OS at the time, but not sure.

I would try a factory controller first. I am surprised that your installer has released a machine that isn't working correctly. They should have had it running properly before getting it to you. Keep us posted, in the interim I'll see what I can dig up.

they haven't released it to me yet... the place is like 4 blocks from my house so i'm always there helping them work on it. they usually don't install mod chips but i begged them to since i fried my first motherboard... they installed it for me right but then with my original hard drive it comes up with error 6 something about cannot read first sector of the hard drive so for right now they hooked up a computer HD until we fix my old HD... wich i have no clue how to do

to fix your original hd error. try putting it back in your box. Loading up the AID from this site and selecting unlock, and then relock it. Error 6 is an unlock error. This is because the hard drive and mobo have to be locked together to work. Hope this helps!

I have come across this on some of my installs where only an original controller will work on the boot screen. I tried logitech, Nyko and some cheap crap none were go.
