I just recently softmodded my stepsons xbox, after obtaining the relevant files and splinter cell. The local store had splintercell (the clasics range) version for sale for £10, so i thought i would give it a go.
To my surprise the softmod worked 1st time.
All the posts i have read state not to use these as they closed the loophole for the softmod on the clasics range of games.
Just goes to show you cant allways beleive what you read and if you have a classics version of splinter cell and want to try it, give it a go.
It may work for you too

great to hear it worked out for ya. i never softmodded more than once so i just went with the crowd saying "Original only!" you should jot down teh serial numbers off the bottom of the disk for us and let us know if it was pal or ntsc. thanks for the info
It was a pal disk, the one which is supplied with the extra bonus disc.
sorry but where would the serial be on the disk?

Damn hey? You DO learn something new every day.
The only reason why I state not to use classic versions is because that is what I've read everywhere myself. Maybe the 007 AUF Classics version had the bug fixed, dunno as I have "old" 007 and Splinter Cell here. Also, I've never seen a classics version of MechAssault, but I do know that it was patched after sometime, so finding a working MechAssault could be fun (I even wasted money buying one and not having any luck).
This was a PAL copy you say. Is there any chance we could get an American / Canadian (NTSC in other words) to try and find classic versions of 007 and Splinter Cell (particually Splinter Cell after reading this info quoted above) and giving it a try? It's not urgent or nothing, just curious now.
dont know if it helps but serials from xbox sticker on case
