Is there any way that I can recover a locked HD from another xbox. I dont have the eeprom and there is no way I can get it. I have a softmodded xbox and can FTP into it. Is there any way to unlock it so I can make a backup of my other drive using software or would I need a modchip?? Or is it a waste of time?
Any response would be appreciated
Thanks

I can't remember, but I think jiggysmb was able to successfully do this.
Personally, I never was able to but I think he found a way. I don't know if he's posted a tutorial yet or not. I could also be mistaken, but I thought he did unlock a HD that belonged on a different machine.

Actually, here's a snippet how he unlocked a locked HD:
using WDs service software to do a security erase, which unlocked the drive & allowed for formatting with the autoinstaller.
So, it looks like he used Western Digitals Service Software and just wiped out the password.
Very cool!

I guess it would depend on the manufacture disks that they supply you. If each one has a security clear then it would probably work.

Checked out the llamma thread for jiggysmb posts, further reading suggests that this method is not viable, somethin to do with passwords. But will give it a chance when I get home later as I have found out I have a seagte disk and 2 WD disks that need unlocked (no eeproms).
Any other suggestions????
sorry didnt read the whole lot of the llamma thread. It might work
Any chance of a tutorial or somethin.

Think I will need a tutorial as I tried with no luck whatsoever to unlock the drives. I used both Seagate and WD software, wouldn't let me in????
Any suggestions???

lol...geeg dont start with the lama forum! ..I hope you did not come here from there...because all of this has been said there again & again, so I dont know how you missed the vital info. If you are going to believe/insist you MUST have the EEPROM, please just stop reading HERE... NO ONE CAN HELP YOU...but if you want to take the blue pill keep reading...
IT IS POSSIBLE! do you think the hard drive manufacturers throw out every drive they get returned under warranty that is locked???
and like I said in my PM response to you, THIS IS NOT THE 'tools' DISC YOU GET FOR FREE WITH YOUR DRIVE WHEN PURCHASED, so how did you try my method? You claimed to try both Seagate & WD software, but you didnt mention the type of HD you were using.....Seagate/WD's service disk wont work on a Maxtor!
Do you have a Seagate or WD 'service' disc? if so can I purchase it from you or 'borrow' it for a short time since it did not work?
I am not a help desk, I was just trying to help out a lot of people at once, but now it seems I get 100 emails a day asking for this software & how to do it. TAKE YOUR DRIVE TO BESTBUY! or any pc repair shop. I refuse to unlock everyones drive that has emailed me, trying to make me 'prove' my statements. If proof is what you need go to ebay & talk to the guy selling 109 stock drives. He was given them for free & unlocked them ALL with the discs I mentioned.
For anyone that can not do it on your own, here are some sites that offer the service:
BinaryBiz Remote Hard Drive Repair, supposedly done over the net
There are a few guys that offer the service on ebay for $40-$50 but I didnt see any listings today. They too only gaurantee they can do some but when I asked they stated they can do most all.
There was also another company in the UK that did it for $30 Eur, so I guess that would be about $50. I cant find their link but they do TIVO & xbox HDs. (Lama deleted the post that had the link, i guess they didnt want their customers knowing about the service)
I think copyrights are a big issue to why many US companies do not offer this 'service'. Between the Lama forum, their site owner, here & the 200 noobs that have emailed me with drives they have sitting around waiting for someone to unlock for free, I have just about had it......from now on " I DONT KNOW NUTIN BOUT NO STINKIN HARD DRIVES" _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic
