Add llamma.com to the list of schmucks!
they had some silly contest for the past 2 years to see who could unlock a stock xbox HD with SOFTWARE. I did so within 2 weeks of reading the "challenge" using WDs service software to do a security erase, which unlocked the drive & allowed for formatting with the autoinstaller.
After 4 emails to the site owner/admin & 3 weeks of members flaming me for telling them something they had been too lazy to look for themselves, they added a new requirement... you must also save the data from the drive.....what BS! over a lousy $100. I told him if he made if $500 or $1000 someone may have brought the software to his attentions 2 years ago!
What they want with 7-10 GB boggles my mind but I also preformed the task on a 200GB Maxtor with that manufacturers software, so it CAN be done & llama wont live up to their own "challenge".
Maybe I can start a 'challenge' on my site...whoever can paint their ass with 'Llamma sucks my ass' will get $100, then when they do it I can say well you have to actually make them suck ass. _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic

So, you were able to take your large HD that was locked to your 1.6 and use it in a different machine?? That is very cool. Very good news for a lot of people who have mobo's go down on them with a locked HD.

The one time I got lucky was with that drive, it was NOT locked
A friend of mine purchased a 200gb that was locked off ebay & used some tech support cd that hard drive manufacturers give out or sell for drive maintenance. After I got flamed in llamas forum for saying it was possible, he did a stock WD for me, just for shits. Everyone was telling me the xbox HD was locked differently than any other locked drive....apparently not
There really is only one step, use the manuf. CD to boot a PC with the locked drive attached via IDE cable. You will get an option to do a 'Security Erase', once that is complete it is unlocked & must be reformatted.
Some guy on ebay was given over a hundred locked stock drives & unlocked them ALL. Last I checked he had 109 left! _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic

He has a locked hdd with a bad password. could you make an iso of that maxtor tool and then upload it to the vip ftp or something like that? I would also like a copy of that disk is why i'm asking that, nothing else, may talk to him about mailing him a copy of it. Thanks for your help. _________________

WD and all the other HD manufactures include a CD with each drive. Are these the tools you are talking about? I have Maxto and WD ones just sitting here.

The Maxtor disc my buddy had said "Service Tools for Technicians"
Take a gander through the disc & see if you see Security options.
I have a few from some HDs I bought but I never thought to look on there.
