Hi to all, hope this is the right place to put an introduction post!
I Have a PAL Crystal Xbox, i believe its a v1.6 or v1.6b, a Joypad and a NSTC version of Halo2 that my Girlfriend sent me from the states and to my suprise it worked perfectly . Finally joined as a member at xbox-hq.com after a few days wait for my registration, thanks to Forahobby . Have started swotting up on how this whole thing works. Have downloaded Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v1.01 and Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0 for if and when i need them. Im very skint at the moment due to a holiday to America im going to on the 28th of this month for a couple of weeks, so, im trying to find the cheapest way to mod my Xbox, looking at a softmod at the mo, have a USB memory stick and can pick up an original copy of 007 AUF for £5(just over a couple of US dollars) here in blighty, just need to find a way to get this usb memory stick hotwired to my Xbox ports or joypad lead, this seems the cheapest way to go with a budget of less than £10. about to put up a few posts, one about my suprise that Halo2 nstc version works on my pal console and asking other peoples thoughts on this, and another asking for links to a way to hotwire this USB memory stick, IF this is possible.
If anyone has anything to offer on either,it would be greatly appreciated by this very green noob!

there are tons of tutorials on how to solder usb ports to controller ports, but the chances of you having some spare ports laying around is slim. I would just buy an adapter. The SmartXX modchip comes with one, if you know anyone with that chip

Im coming over from England and staying with my Girl in Louisville on the 28th of this month for a couple of weeks, Maybe i can come round and borrow yours ?(Just kidding)no but i will be there for a couple of weeks and ive noticed that the modchips are a little less expensive over there, will a US bought chip work on my PAL XBox?i looked at the chip you have and it looks great and the best to go for with all the stuff it comes with, mines Either a 1.6 or a 1.6b its very new and a crystal case.If i dont go for that, have you a link for one of the tutorials for the hotwiring of my memorystick if i see a cheap controller to butcher?

I was going to offer to lend it to you, but the one thing I have loaned out to someone here I never got back ..... and louisville is a little far. Maybe there is a member there that can let you borrow it though...
I think they sell some too, but the controller dongle & female usb port should only be a few bucks if you are willing to do it yourself
I am not too sure on the PAL/NTSC with SMartXX, but I see people everywhere with them, so I assume it doesnt matter.

Thanx for the welcome and the help i should be able to get started soon just need the female ends but will prob go for a SmartXX modchip now, theres something strange about my Xbox Though! have a look in the General discussion board, on the post by me marked, summat like "Strange! NTSC Halo2 is working on my PAL XBox", see if you have any opinion or explanation on that.
