I modded my V1.0 and brought it back to life with the X3. I am able to flash the chip but it comes with a error after it boots up saying something is wrong. It gives me a code 06 meaning HDD error. This harddrive was bad I believe before the mod ( makes a loud clicking noise). What are my options on getting this booted up so I can change the HDD to a known good one ????. I have a V1.0 that is stock and was wondering if I should even plug it into this box or just leave the stock one alone. Any help would be great.... _________________ XBOX V1.4

You should be able to put any old pc hard drive in there, and then use a program like AID v1.01 to format and install everything you will ever need. _________________

when I put another hard drive in it just comes up with another error code, usually a 09, still in the HDD error range. I only have a 6.0 to try, maybe it's too small to work ?? _________________ XBOX V1.4

Here's what I would do. I would buy a larger HD. Like 80GB or more. Then, I would install it and boot up an autoinstaller. If you get an error, first thing I would do is change my IDE cable. If you still cannot boot up the AI make sure you have media your DVD Drive will read and your bios that is flashed to the mod chip is not corrupt.

I'll try that out and see what happens. I was considering swapping the IDE cable. The box will boot with the Xbox logo and them pause and then starts making that loud noise I described earlier. Its definately in the hard drive.I can make the X3 go through its different test of blue, red and purple ok. If I push the eject and power at the same time and the X3 flash screen comes up it shows that the harddrive cannot read sector one. I will post exactly what it says tonight. If the flash is corrupt what would be signs of this??? Can I just simply reload it over? Thanks for the help _________________ XBOX V1.4

yeh, error 09 means the hard drive is too small or the primary partition is less than 8.2GB, so either way you need a HDD bigger than 8.2GB. If you just want it working then just buy an unlocked standard HDD, if you want to store games/movies/roms etc on the HDD then get something bigger.

I tried my HDD out of my modded box that is a V1.4. It does the same thing as if I put the bad HDD in. Are HDD's specific to their boxes or can they be interchanged? It will boot up to the Xbox logo and then just hang and go into its red/green flash. I tried different IDE cables with no luck. Maybe I have bigger problems than what a mod chip will solve....... _________________ XBOX V1.4
