Great stuff on this site, Thanks.
I put the softmod installer deluxe 1.01 on a ver 1.6 xbox and it works fine.
And now it is time to change the hard drive so I can install XBMC and ect.
I burned a copy of the Auto Installer deluxe and inserted it into the xbox with the orignal hard drive installed, and I get the menu to proceed with the mod process.
Now the question:
What do I do with the new 160 gig WD harddrive??? I installed it into the xbox with the Auto installer disk in and booted but this time I received the FLASHING red eject button and the screen that says Xbox needs service. I put the old drive in and that went away. so how do I prepair the drive for the mod? It is brand new out of the box. no formating or anything.

Thanks for your time.

you have to prepare the hdd while its connected to your pc first. i don't know the program though as i never done it. someone will have to chime in with the name, or do a search for it in the tutorial section. i wonder if you can boot the xbox with the disk and then hotswap the hdd while its on.... i wouldn't recomend trying that but that would be sweet if thats all it took Razz

Well I tried to hot swap them but it just hangs.
I took the new HD and put it in an old pc and did a format, one partition 160 gig. then put in my XP computer and FTP'ed the files and folders off the old drive in the xbox, but that did not work either.

I wonder if I should use the lenux program I have for copying tivo drives???
Oh well - Still stumped Mad

Thanks Funky...Yes that is what I needed, But...
When I started reading I was thinking that there would be an easier way.
I found another post saying this method was outdated. and I found an easier way to accomplish part of this HD Swap-out. using HDD Manager

But now I have a question. If I ever want to use the XBOX LIVE feature again do I need the Xbox to think the Original Hard drive is still in the xbox
ie. hex edit the xbox replacement drive so that HDD_driver thinks it’s the original xbox hard drive???

Or now that I have the eprom saved just use HDD Manager to create the new and appropiate hard drive lock code for my xbox?

Then use the AID1.01 disk to rebuild the drive or Hdd Manager to clone the old drive.

I just don't want to screw my self out of XBOX LIVE in the future.

Thanks for any help on this.
