Post subject: Alternative LPC point Diagram

I am curretnly attempting a simple 2.3 Pin header install on a Version 1.0 box..or so I thought it was easy.. Well here it goes. In attempt of prepping the LPC point.. I tried to remove the solder that filled the LPC with desoldering braid...Ill never do that again.. I did all right but I got to a few that was just so stubborn. so I pulled out the 30 watt and tried to take it out with..I think in the process I burnout some of the traces...so I continued anyway... I soldered the pin header and after putting in the chip it did the famous reboot tree times and frag.... I then took the chip out to make sure that I didnt fry the board and to my relief it still booted fine without the chip...I even put a DUOX2 in their to make sure that it wasnt the chip and it did exactly the same thing...I have added solder plenty of times but I just dont want to push my luck.....So to make a long story short, Im trying to find alternative points on the board for this LPC rather than chancing of screwing up my board anymore than it already is...I could take a multimeter my self but I cant trust it because I would need to isolate some sircuits and I wouldnt know which circuit to isolate....I was wondering if someone know of a diagram that I could use instead..I would greatly appreciate anyones help...Thank you in advance.....

Unfortunately, I dont' know of any alternate points. But, I do know what you mean about the stubborn filled holes. I use desoldering braid and a 25watt iron. Basically, there is two holes that I always have to flip over and get from the bottom.

I found that if you roll the tip of the iron around the LPC hole area until you start to see the solder get sucked up into the braid then stop, you get quicker results.

Plus, I always give a five count whether I think the hole is cleared or not. I let cool down and try again if need be.

Another hint: On the real stubborn holes, I actually put the tip of the iron into the hole for a brief moment. That tends to get the solder to melt and then I hurry up and put down the braid and reheat the braid. Or, the melting makes the solder go closer to the bottom of the board and I just flip over. I've probably desoldered near 50-60 1.0s now, but I still get a real stubborn one here and there.

Have you tried to just clean up the board and examine the traces with a magnifying glass. You may have lucked out and only burned up a small trace. As long as you didnt effect the middle layer of the mobo you should be able to easily repair the trace either by a jumper wire or some a circuit writer pen (conductive paint).

However, if you damaged the middle layer of the mobo you wont be able to repair it. Good luck, I hope you get it fixed or find your alternate points. I would imagine there are some points just like in the 1.6 LPC rebuilds....I'm very curious myself.

Well thats what I had planned in the begining but I was wanted a for sure diagram so I dont chance soldering to the wrong connections. I dont think I have ruined the insides of the mother boards as of yet because it still does boot up fine to MS Dash...I have to see how far I can go with this but if nothing else I think Im going to slap this back together while it works and sell it on ebay before I ruin it further but if I do get success I will be sure to post some results and pics.. thanks for the help anyhow..
