Hello all,
For some reason all of a sudden my son's Xbox comes up with the error seek service screen. That only seems to come up when you try to boot and play on an unlock drive. When I go to the xemiun menu / disk tools/ the option is there to lock the drive but it tells me it fails when I try to do it. I don't think it is really unlocked I think it just thinks it is? Any help?????? _________________ Xenium Ice 2.0

If it says it is unlocked then it is unlocked, double check in evox go to system settings and settings and it will say HD security enabled or disabled. If it won't lock then you have a HD that is not capable of being locked, some drives don't have the ability, you could also try it in configmagic

I new this was going to sound wierd. Lately when we turn the xbox on we get the need service screen. We reboot to the xenium menu and go to disk tools. In the first line it reads lock hard drive. We try to lock it but it fails. I also know from past dealings that if I hook xbox to my computer through the hub. I can't see xbox file if drive is locked. Here is where it gets wierd, according to xenium menu drive is unlocked but if I look across computer wire I can't see files. (locked) Here is where it gets super wierd! My son unplugs xbox power and unplugs 3 av jacks /counts to 10 and plugs everything back in. Boots normal and things are fine untill we reboot. But you have to unplug all wires, not just power. This drive is lockable, _________________ Xenium Ice 2.0

hmm, Ok, first of all how do you know the drive is lockable?
Try locking it with configmagic first, if that fails then it really ain't lockable, if it used to be then maybe ur HD is on it's way out, I would at least try another if you have any spare.

It was on the hard drive list for being lockable. It is a Western dig 160 gig drive ( WD1600JB-OOGVAO), I bought it right after thanksgiving. I do have other hard drive lying around but not large enough to back up all the game we have saved. I was informed today when I got home from work that unplugging the cables no longer works. It seems to come up when it wants too. When it does come up xem / evox/ config mag all say drive is locked. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.0

That should be a lockable drive, I have locked quite a few of those. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I'm going to order a WD2500JBRTL drive tonight. It's $109 after rebates. The plan is to build a new drive for the xbox then copy 70 gig plus games back to it. Can you tell me the easyest way to copy them back? Can I installthe drive in a PC as an extra drive and run them up the network? Or put both drives in xbox and copy that way? _________________ Xenium Ice 2.0

Unfortunately I do not have access to 2 modded xboxes. Is there another way ? I'll have one xbox system and 2 hard drives. Thank You. Terabyt1 _________________ Xenium Ice 2.0

You can use the Xenium Ice HD tools to do that.
You just change the HD Jumper to slave. Then, hook up a power splitter to the molex connector that powers the HD. Then, you can now power up both HD's.
Next, take out the IDE cable from the DVD drive and pop it into the new HD that is the slave.
Follow the directions and it will format your new HD and then copy all of the contents from the older drive to the new...man, it is so cool!!

lol for some reason i was thinking you were getting a new xbox :/ anyways. what i did (and takes FOREVER) is to copy the games back off the xbox on to the pc using Qwix. i copied them all off as ISO's so i could burn some of the ones i never played anymore to discs. thats the only way i can see for to get stuff off that hdd, and thats only if you can get it to work so you can FTP into it. might be a better method but thats all i can think of atm

Looks like I found the problem on why the drive was unlocking itself. I found two wires shorted on 1 of the houseing screws. The wires where from the extra led lights that came with the mod chip. I put some elect. tape on them and it's working fine so far.. Thank you all for your help>

No problem, but in regard to the HD, it doesn't matter what size you go from then to.
What it does is, partitions the HD first, then copys the data from C to C, E to E, F to F, etc...
even your X, Y, and Z gets copied.
It's a great way to upgrade a HD.
