I had an xbox crystal returned today, wierd problem, it would boot evox but not all the way, as in the Green X was still on the screen with evox in the background. Would not play originals either, so anyway, I tried another HD and it worked fine, so thought I would reformat and partition the dodgy HD, would'nt have it, tried to partition in a pc and I get R/W error, so now I have this 200GB HD, and I dunno if he dropped the damn thing or what, I can't return it so I guess I gotta give him another HD now.

if you bought it new then it should still be under the manufacturers warranty ,
try formatting it on the xbox with different bios then the one it came out of, and try different autoinstallers to format it , like slayers 2.6 or firefuckers _________________ Xbox v1.0/1.1/1.5/1.6a

I have the same thing happening to a 160GB HD. Just happend last week.
I am going to upgrade the Xenium Ice to 2.2.1 and use the cache clearing tool. Someone told me to try clearning the X, Y, Z cache, but not sure what that will do.

well fdisk and partition magic won't touch the damn thing, it's unlocked. My pc only picks it up as a 148GB drive too.
I didn;t get a recipt with it as was from ebay as my supplier mess me round, it was new and sealed tho.
I'll just replace it for him and see what I can do with it, probably not much, it's just annoying more than anything.
