Hiya

Either buy a faulty mobo and swap the ports over, or buy a new mobo.

Lemme guess: He tried connecting to Live using a standard modular (phone) cable?

You could try removing the port and opening it up, and beinding everything back into shape, but I'm betting you'd have little luck with that.

More plausible would be to find a broken Xbox and take the port from it and replace it. Probably requires a lot of soldering and an immense pain in your ass.

Best of luck to you.

I really have no idea. I guess you could look for someone that messed up their system trying to mod it. I can't see how they'd mess up the LAN card, so it should be safe.

As far as how difficult it is, I can only imagine, but I'm willing to bet that you're in for a treat...

Replacing it is quite easy, I just did this for another member, unfortunately it didnt' help his situation. Someone walked past his and caught the cord with their foot and then it stopped working.

I took a known good one and desoldered the bad one off, and replaced with the good one. There still is no connection. I checked for broken traces, but really see nothing on the upper or lower portion of the mobo.... but, replacing the port is the first thing to try anyway, so you should give it a shot.

First, get a soldering iron. I would use 25watt iron. Then get some desoldering braid.

Here is the area you want to desolder:

Then, desolder each point thoroughly so you dont damage the board taking it off.

This is what you should have after desoldered and removd.

I hope that gives you a littel idea of what you have to do.
