Ok I just upgraded my hd on my xbox to a western digital 120gb one..
I have a Xenium Ice modchip running xecuter bios 4983.06
Some of my old games that I backed up (ie Madden 2004, MVP baseball 2004) work fine both off the backup disc and the hard drive..
but new games like NFS underground 2 and Mortal Kombat deception
now hang soon after starting them up both when I use the disc or try
playing off the hard drive...
any ideas why this happens?

This seems to be an issue with the Xenium ICE. I occasionally have problems with loading games where it doesn't accept input from any of the controllers for a minute or so.
I find I have less issues with games whenever I cold boot the system with the disc in the tray. If you're running from a backup on the HDD, cold reboot the system before loading the game. This prevents any memory leak issues with running XBMC or games you played before that didn't empty the memory the whole way.

Hmm...I have been installing Xenium Ice's for awhile now and have never seen any hangups like that. However, I have seen some of the older chips that needed upgraded to 2.0.1 show OS hangups when first booted. The chips LED turns amber and you get a black screen. You have to go into recovery mod and then all will be fine after you reboot. The new chips that I just received already have 2.0.1. on them and they haven't had any issues thus far.
Anytime you have game hangups it's usually a patching problem. The Xenium Ice should be able to play any backup as long as it's patched properly.
My advice would be to rebackup the games using DVD2Xbox from the original Disks to your HD and then make your disk backups again. I have had the exact same problem with games that I have burned from one HD and then tried to use on another. It is real strange. I mod about 5 to 13 machines a week and have made about 20 or so backups of games that I have. They wont back up on other machines regardless if it's a Xenium Ice, X3, or SmartXX. I always get "so many files failed to copy" errors from DVD2Xbox and the game freezes right after it boots. But, if I backup from the original it's fine.
