First of all I'd just like to say well done on making what seems to be an excellent site.
Right, I'm new to this but believe me when I say I've done a LOT of reading up on X-Box, I've been reading guides / tutorials / other posts for a few weeks now.
My first aim is to mod my own X-Box that I've had for quite a while. From what I've been able to tell it's a v1.1 ( it's a week 37 2002 model ) I'm not going to open it up until my chip arrives, as I don't think it makes much difference wether it's a v1.1 or v1.2. (apart from the position of the D0 point on the motherboard)
For this I've decided to order the Xenium ICE solderless which I did about an hour ago. I've also decided I'm going to go with the Unleash-X dashboard.
I've also looked about and downloaded pretty much everything I think I'll need, from Dashboards, BIOS, FTP client, manuals and guides, etc So hopefully I'm all set.
With this ( providing all goes well with the mod ) I'm going to spend a couple of weeks getting used to the software side of things untill I feel comfortable I know what I'm doing. Shouldn't be too difficult as I can do pretty much anything with a PC. I've built 7 this month alone for friends, now they're all waiting for me to start with X-Boxes
Which brings me to why I've posted. All these new X-Boxes are v1.6 and I've read a few horror stories which have put me off. All my friends are going to buy these new crystal X-Box's if I can do the mod, I've also bought my son one for christmas.
I'm ok at soldering but I've read even experienced modders having problems with them. Are they worth bothering with if they aren't your own?? Worth the hassle?? If yes then is the Xenium still a good choice?
From what I can gather the LPC rebuild board can't be used with the Xenium, so the only choice is the messy wires and lots of solder. I'm thinking I might go with the Xecuter3 on the v1.6 X-Box and use the LPC rebuild board as it's only £1.99.
Also what's the best wire to use for these mods? Divineo sell some Kynar single core wire but it's £11 a roll, will any old wire do? Seems very expensive, I think they're taking the **** with that price tbh. Also what's the best type of solder to use for this type of job?
Cheers for any help _________________ X-Box v1.1,

I was wondering the same thing actually, i have a feeling once you do one v1.6 you wouldnt have a problem doing multiple. The first time i took my xbox apart it took me 2 hours being all carefull with it.. now i can rip them apart in like 5 mins, and doing mod installs take me 10-15 tops.. but i have yet to mess around with a 1.6, so i'm interested in a response to this as well. _________________ XBOX v1.1
