I have a soft modded xbox that had XBOXMC installed on it. i dont use it to play games or emu's or anything just wanted to use it to watch films etc from my pc.
it started to stutter and freeze so thought i would try and fix it.
sadly i was on night shift and not thinking correctly and accidently deleted the contents of the c: d: and e: drive via ftp. and then rebooted the machine. no when i turn it on i get the green xbox log then a black screen. i cant ftp to the box, i have backed up some of the driver but not sure how to recover my box, any ideas?

If its a softmod youre gonna need a PC with IDE ports, Autobuilder, follow the included video, if you have your eeprom add it to the disc like in the video if not you gotta hotswap. If its chipped you should be able to boot XBMC Spoof Disc Xtreme and use it to install your M$ Dash files and hacked dashboard of choice

Autobuilder lets you pick between Avalaunch, Evox, UnleashX and XBMC for dash

Sorry me again.
I am having issues unlocking the drive. I unplug the dvd drive as instructed but drive still seems to be locked.
i have another drive that i installed everything on but not moved the eeprom over. i think this is the only thing stopping it working.
any suggestions on either issue would be appreciated

When I was fixing my 1.1 Xbox that had a bad dash install on it I had to do a hotswap method and I was running into the same problem as you. For some reason if you unplug the Xbox IDE cable from the hard drive after its been unlocked and then take too long to plug the IDE cable from the PC in, the drive will relock. You have to swap the IDE cables as fast as you possibly can or the drive will relock on you. _________________

the main problem is because i have no output no have no idea when the error comes up that allows me to unplug the drive.
is there any recommended time i should leave it after switching on to make sure its unlocked

Just give it about 15 seconds or so after you start it up. It should be unlocked by then. Then just make sure to switch the cables as fast as you possibly can. _________________

The video cables must be plugged into the XBOX for this method to work. They dont have to be plugged into a TV though. Soon as the light around the tray open button changes from green to red its ready to go. Hotswapping can be a real pig. Very first time I ever did it I actualy cooked an XBOX cause I got so frustrated I threw the HDD into a wall
It does work though so be patient and just keep trying. You can also attempt a manufacturer unlock. Hook the HDD to a PC and run Autobuilder, pick option 4, type atapwd, pick security and click on unlock with master password. If its a WD HDD the preset password is WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWD
If its the older Seagate with rubber around it the preset pass is
SEAGATE floowed by 25 spaces
If it says completed succesfuly then go to disable with master pass and repeat. Now once unlocked you can use the xbrowser function to navigate the HDD and copy off the eeprom backup to a floppy disc for locking and unlocking
