Posted: Sat Nov 06, 2004 1:12 pm Post subject: Xenium install problems, HELP!
I have an XBox v.1.0 and just got the Xenium Ice v.2.0 Solderless. after initial install I kept getting FRAGed. After a couple hours of reinstalling the chip the Xenium OS finally showed up. I backed up the EEPROM and I loaded the TSOP and had a few problems but it eventually booted. I then tried to load the Xecuter 4983.67 bios from a CD with no luck and then tried a DVD-R and it seemed to work and showed up in the list. Then I chose the Xecuter Bios and booted. the system locked up so I pressed the power button to turn it off and turned it back on only to get the FRAG all over again. I also tried the Eject button and still got the FRAG.
I've read that the chip can be reset by the little switch on the side of the Xenium but am unsure what to so after I switch it. Also is there any way I can force it to boot into the Xenium OS again? I'd appriciate any help or nfo on what im doing wrong. Thanks.

hi osanekun,
it sounds like your modchip was never really working correctly since you installed it.. Im sure you will be able to get your modchip re-flashed and working definately..
Realy Mccloy our USA admin has plenty of experience with xeniums so im sure hes best to reply.. Anyway, hope you get it sorted soon mate and enjoy the site.
thanks for your reply. I think you are right in saying that the chip wasnt working properly to begin with. I ordered two Xenium chips (the 2nd for my friend) so I tried the other and it worked although I still would like to try and reset the other chip. I tried the reset switch and it loaded the Xenium os but could not read the factory defaults disk I made from the ISO version and the loading would HALT. Do you know if its possible to load the reset files from the USB adaptor? Thanks again.

Download the Xenium OS 2.0.1 and update your chip. You can either download the .iso and burn it, or download the HDD version and FTP it to your E folder. Make sure your HD is unlocked if you are going to use the HD method.
You can either flip the switch, or choose recovery from the menu, but since you are fragging I would imagine that you will have to use the switch, and the CD method.
Put the CD in the drive and turn off the xbox. Open it up and flip your Xenium Ice modchip switch to start the recovery.
Turn your xbox on. Your power/eject light should blink orange, but then go to a red/green frag. Your machine will turn off on it's own after the upgrade/recovery is done.
Open the machine and flip the switch back to the original position. That should do it.
First, I would check the chip placement with the solderless adapter. I would be that it's not aligned. But, upgrading the chip won't hurt if you still want to do that too.

realmccloy,
Thank you very much for the info. I also have a few more noob questions. I wanted to change the hard drive and understood that there is a HD install wizard in the menu of the Xenium OS. I was wondering, should I immediatedly change the drive before I begin installaltion of the Dashboards and if so what is the easiest method to install. I saw that there is a autoinstaller by Slayer that uses the Evox dashboard. I initially wanted to use the UnleashX! since my friend has it but if that auto installer will make my life easier than I will use that. I am currently looking thru the boards on instructions for dashboard installs.
Also I did flash the other chip I had with the Reatil kernel (TSOP option), backed up the EEPROM and it seeems I loaded the Xecuter 4983.06 but when I choose that Bios it looks the same as the Retail dashboard. Does it do this because I havnt loaded a dashboard yet? Sorry for all the newbie questions but after the bad experience with the first chip I want make sure im doing things right. Thank you again for all your help.

Yes, since you haven't installed a dash yet, the hacked bios is taking you to the MS Dashboard. If you flashed the Xecuter2 bios, you should see the word Xecuter2 under the green X during the splash sequence, do you?
Then, if you were to boot the retail kernel, you should see Microsoft under the X.
Now that your mod chip is flashed, just swap out HD's.
Since you have VIP priv's, you should download Xbox-HQ Autoinstaller 1.3, it's a little more up to date than some of the other installers out there.
It is in .ISO format, so all you have to do is burn it with your favorite dvd burning software, or Nero, whichever you prefer. Once you have it burned, just pop it it and boot up the hacked bios. If you don't see the AI menu and it boots to the MS Dash, then there is something wrong with the disk you made.
From the AI menu, you will be able to install your dashboards, MS and Evox.
Here is the sequence you want to take.
Install HD.
Load AI
Format Large HD
Prepare LG HD
Install MS Dash
Install EvoX Dash
Install Applications
Lock HD
Install DVD Regrion Free for MS Dash.
As soon as you are done, reboot and boot to MS Dash. If you get error 13 or 21 don't freak. Go to the VIP download section and go to dashboards. Download MS Dash for Xbox Versions 1.4 and higher. FTP the xboxdashdata folder and xboxdash.xbe file over to the C folder of your xbox. When prompted to overwrite select yes.
Reboot and check , your error should be gone.
If you have a xbox version less than 1.4 then you shouldn't have to do that last step I just mentioned.
Let me know if you need any other help.

WOW! Thanks alot realmccloy!
After posting earlier I did join for VIP privileges and downloaded the Xbox-HQ Autoinstaller 1.3 and there sure is a wealth of stuff for that $5 (especially all the help too). I dont recall seeing the Xecuter2 logo when I had booted to the Xecuter Bios (the led did change to the color I chose for the Xecuter bios) but then I could have not been paying attention. Im at work right now so i'll definately double check it as soon as I get home. In the event that the Xecuter2 logo doesnt appear and the ms logo appears is it should I just reflash the chip or is there some other way to varify that the bios was installed correctly?
Anyway thank you so much for all of your detailed instructions, I can go into this a lot more sure about things than I did a few days ago. I'll post my results in a few hours, hopefully they will be good.

Sounds like you missed it is all If the LED is changing to the color your specified when you did your mod chip flash, then I would bet that you just missed the Xecuter2 below the X. If you don't know to look for it, it's easy to miss.
Let me know if you need any more help.

realmccloy,
you were right, the bios was installed, the xecuter2 logo was there (I never noticed it). I burned the ISO to CD-R and booted into the Xecuter2 Bios with CD in drive. Screen came up with Error 13. I know you said to download the dash for the models 1.4 and up but my box is a 1.0 (since it has the fan on the heatsink). Dunno what to do, any ideas?

Also forgot to mention I put in a brand new Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm drive (unformated) set to cable select.

Update: it turns out the reason for the error was the media. My Xbox just doesnt seem to like CD-R media. I tried Imation, Kyphermedia, generic, and even Sony and none seemed to work so I put the ISO on a Ritek DVD-R and the installer booted right up! Installed into the 60GB drive.
I was wondering when I chose to prep the HD did I do right by choosing the C, E, F and no G since its a small drive? Also I chose to install the latest Evox dash to the C drive and apps to the E. Hope I did it right.
In any case I played a back-up of mine and it worked great!
realmccloy, THANK YOU so much for all your help, there was no way I could have done it without you! Im still amazed at the amount of help you gave me in such a short time. I cant THANK YOU enough!
Also thank you to forahobby for that inital response.
Now that i actually got the thing up and running I may end up having more questions all over again. Hope you guys are game (no pun intented)
THANKS AGAIN!

Glad you are getting moving with the mod.. One thing though, I have never used a HD that small, but I still would think that you should have put the apps on the F drive.
Depending on how you installed EvoX it may not matter as you can specify where you want your games to save while using DVD2Xbox to rip them.
If you look at your folder breakdown, you should have the bulk of your storage in the F drive if I am not mistaken. Like I said, the smallest drive I have ever installed has been a 120GB HD, but I would assume that the bios will dictate the same type of partitioning. So much in C, E, and then the rest up to 137GB in F. Anything after that, depending on the bios would go to G.
Let me know if you have any problems opening some of your applications. Try to open up PxHDD loader and Dvd2xbox and let me know what happens.
Can you FTP into your machine yet??

Thanks realmccloy,
I tried to launch those apps and they launched fine but Im having problems exiting any app I go into and I notice not all the apps in the list are accessible. Also when I play a backup from DVD-R, is the only way to get back to the dashboard by resrating the machine? Is the Px HDD loader to rip the games to the HD? I had a 160GB drive too but I figured I could try the 60GB first and if I needed more room later I could swap the drive. Anyhow im gonna try and reinstall the auto installer and install into the F drive like you advised. Also if I wanted to install other apps what is the best way to go about doing so? Also I havnt tried the FTP yet, I read that Flash FXP is the app to use off the PC? Modding a PS2 was so much simpler but this is way cooler! Sorry for the millions of questions.
Thanks again dude.

Okay, here is what you want to do.
use the installer and reformat your entire HD.
then Prepare the HD
Then install dashboards to C
When you install EvoX 3935 make sure you install it to C, but with F drive support.
Then install applications to F
You should be fine then.
You had to do this anyway, because your set up was all screwed up. That is why you couldn't select some applications.
Let me know how it goes.
