Sup yall. im sure its been covered somewhere but after a while of looking, ive come up nowhere. ive got my xbox ftp'd nicely to my pc and have figured out SMB sharing through xbmc. now ive been trying to get the weather and cddb functions working but my problem is they cannot connect to the net. im not sure if its firewall settings or system settings on pc or xbox so i was trying out different IP, subnet, gateway, and DNS settings. tried ones that matched my dialup to my xbox, and after a few minutes checked the xbox whose temp was reading at 79.9 deg C. just as i went in, the thing shut down with orange LED flashing and fan went into what i guess is emergency cooldown. The change in temp was sudden because 10 mins earlier it was 55degC. after shutdown for a few minutes and settings set back to normal, temp visibly went down. Any ideas how the settings can cause this???

hi mate,
thats a strange one.. Have you upgraded your XBOX HDD?
Ive never had any probs with xboxes overheating..
How old is your xbox..
Hopefully someone may have some answers for you..
btw.. You should be able to use cddb and weather etc no problems even if your on 56k..
hey... nah the HDD is stock. xbox is one of the originals... i cant help but going out and buying something when it first comes out. but yeah, i know its really strange. especially since its never happened before.. and i think its definetly got something to do with the settings... not sure how but those were the only changed functions then straight after the overheating happened. another thing we'll never know the answer too
ps still aint got the cddb and weather settings working... its addresses i cant get to work right but ive tried every combo i can think of. im missing something small but i guess i can go without. cheers

If you have one of the originals, I would venture to say that you have the second fan, which makes overheating real strange. I don't see how any settings other than bios settings can effect the fan speeds. One of your fans may just be crapping out on you, or the bios could be corrupt and not reading temperature correctly.
If this is happening with modchip activated, try flashing a new bios to the chip.
Good luck, I hope you find the problem. Let us know if you do.
