Hi, I'm new to this site and to modding consoles. I've recently modded a V1.0 Xbox with a Duox2 GS mod chip. I installed x2.5032 BIOS and then ran the Auto Installer Deluxe 4.52.
Everything was going fine, I installed the EvolutionX Dashboard and continued to look through the disk to see what else I could do. I came across the one-click installs and thought I'll give that a go. While it was installing it seemed to hang(or maybe my patience got the better of me) at 58% so i turned off the console. Mistake.
Now I get what I can only assume is error 21(the number 21 is in the top left corner) and can no longer do/run anything. I need to get this running because my ultimate goal was to run linux on it and use it as a file server for the family business.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'll be gone for the weekend, so if theres no response from me, this is the reason.

Hey Skippy, welcome to the HQ!!!!
Just wanna say, an error 21 is an issue with the dashboard and it needs to be reinstalled. Next question, you say it will not load anything, does that also include any games or what. Try and load a game if you have not yet, and if so then try and load AID again and format the hdd and then reinstalled the dashboard to it, not using one click, and make sure you install the MS Dashboard it self just to be on the safe side!

Tried a game, it seemed to work fine.
So I tried AID again but it still won't load.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: Kept on trying AID and got it to load the disk, did what you said. I'll let you know how I get on

So after Loading AID I formatted the HDD and installed the MS Dashboard and restarted.
I still got the same errors.
So after loading AID again I formatted again and installed Ms Dashboard and EvolutionX Dashboard.
Now I can boot into EvolutionX with modchip turned on, but with modchip off It doesn't boot into Ms Dashboard, the errors appear again.
When in EvolutionX and click on load MS Dashboard, it goes back to errors.
Any ideas what I can do or what the problem might be. Can I still go on with installing Linux and use as a File server. Also I plan on Swapping hard drive for a bigger one, so was all this effort in vain?
If your only goal is to install linux (and do away with the ability to run xbox games) then just flash one of your banks with Cromwell, stick in your xbox compatible Linux distro and install it to the new bigger hard drive. _________________

Ok, so heres what i would honestly do!
Upgrade the hard drive and see if you still get the error 21 when trying to load the MS Dashboard. Either way you should still be able to install Linux and not have any issues.
Of course to get linux to be the main Dash you will need to do some editing and im sure someone else will be more than happy to help you with that part if need be. _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial
What are the advantages of cromwell? Is it necessary for installing linux?
You can install Linux as an application and have it run along side your hacked dash but it will be read only (I think) and it wont be a native install.
If you flash Cromwell (A legal Linux bios replacement) to your chip you can install Linux to your hard drive just the same as you would with a PC but you wont be able to run any xbox games or homebrew. _________________

Now to get Samba up and running.

Thanks for the link, proved to be very useful.
Just wanted to update people on my progress. Finally achieved my goal, I now have an xbox running as a server in the network and its all up to date and accessible to all on the network.
