Hi there,
I managed to softmod my first xbox a about a year ago using an action reply memory card thing and splinter cell. Got XBMC running and was so impressed I brough a second xbox to whack xbmc on for the bedroom.
One started to play up wasn't updating in xbmc or cleaning the library properly. I thought I'd delete everything and start again. It was late, and although have been at this over a year I've only done 2 softmods and then left it so am very inexperienced. Well, stupidly I formatted everything from within evox. So it will now only load games from dvd drive has no dash of anykind so have no way to get the save game exploits onto the HDD to resoftmod.
I have one softmodded xbox in perfect working order and have FTP'd everything off it onto my PC.
I have done some searching and reading and am thinking I can hotswap the drive from the fooked xbox into my PC and put all the files back onfrom the backup of my working xbox. Am I right in thinking once I have hotswapped the drive i need to run a program to be able to access the drive are these all DOS only or can i do this from windows?
An will doing this get i working again or will I have to redo the softmod?
Or am I going about this the wrong way?

Just to add I made an "HQ Auto Installer Deluxe" disc but it won't boot from this only original xbox games, I confirmed the HQ Auto Installer Deluxe was working by putting it in my working xbox and i t runs fine.
If it will boot original xbox games try running a `Live Enabled` game then try signing into `Live` ...... without a network cable attached, theres a dash update.xbe on the disc that might fix your problem. _________________
Thanks for the suggestion, I got the AID to work by burning to DVDR rather than CDR after reading some most xbox drives can't read cdr.
Did the dual softmod with unleashx / softmod menu. If I let it boot into unleash X it just frezes on the splash screen. I manged to get FTP access via the softmod menu (boot with disc tray open) and I@m currently FTPing my backup across now fingers crossed.
All sorted, but couldn't install unleash x as softmod it just froze only evoX was working. When FTPin to EvoX was very slow, just booted into softmod menu and FTP'd that way, wprked fine then.
managed to get unleashX as my dash by first installing evoX and then launching a recovery file, not sure how i manged it but now have unleashX as my dash and XBMC working fine restored from a backup off my other XBOX. Happy days!
May have a play wth installing differnt dashes to see which one I like now.
Future post will prob be under softmod or unleashX EvoX forums I imagine
