my question is that of if the controllers are using 2.4 ghz on all of them how is it that a reciever is not compatable with another controller? i know dumb question. i have some nyko controllers that i really want to use but have no recievers and they are no longer available online. it takes one reciever with 2 dongle plugs.they are 5 yrs old. im new to xboxs as everyone else has already done stuff im just trying. 2 more chapters on half life 2. is there really a half life one game?

Wireless controllers transmit on different frequencies...channels if you will. Just like cordless phones.
Figuring out what frequency is a little involved, but can be done. You would have to open your controller and take a look at the transmitting crystal. Once you know what type of crystal is in the controller you can match it in the receiver.

the crystal is on the little board on the front of the controller? how do i match it? is there a tut somewhere? or should i just google it? really want to use these controllers i have. do i just have to take chance on a reciever to see if it will match up or not? i think you know what im trying to ask. HOW.. lol

Sounds like you are up for the challenge
When you open the controller, you should see a component with a metal cap. It should be about 1/4 inch long. There are numbers on the cap to indicate what type of crystal it is. Any electronics shop should carry them. Find the match and replace the one that is in the receiver.
Of course soldering will be required. Hopefully you're good at it. I'm sure someone at the electronics store can give you some pointers.

hey thanks. that sounds simple enuf. looks simple too. i have a reciever that has the same crystal in it as the controller, any ideas why it wouldnt work? the controller is a 24.000m and the reciever is also a 24.000m
they are different brands,this wouldnt matter right?
