i have in a phillips in m y box indoors and my mate upgraded the fw for me and its fine, i've just got another xbox and bigger hd ,and i softmod'ed added a car kit and installed it,but now i find its got the same phillips drive and the same problem,unlucky for me the bloke who done my first one doesnt live about here anymore, and i cant find any info , on what tools to use,iif i can find a fw from philips maybe will the xbox boot with dif fw, i mean the drive fw isnt checked at boot?

There is no firmware out there that will make your disk drive read better man, at best you might want to try and adjust the pot screw like this: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/409908
