Okay so I'll start from the beginning... way back in 2004 (maybe 2005?) I had a friend of mine install a mod chip in my xbox as well as a 250Gb hard drive. He did a great job and I was able to use it for quite sometime to play games directly from the hard drive. At some point several years later my mod chip seemingly just stopped working. When turned on, my xbox would just boot as normal, without error, rather than to the modded dashboard (can't remember now which one I was using). At this point I only played it occasionally anyway so I just figured, eh I got some good years out of it. But lately I've decided to try and resurrect my old xbox because if memory serves correctly I still have some pretty fun xbox games on the HDD not to mention the emulators and ROMs.
Seeing as I didn't install this mod chip originally I am unfamiliar with the whole process on the hardware end. I feel I have the capability to do this I just need some direction and worse case scenario is that I'll permanently destroy my Xbox... no big loss there, I haven't even touched it in 2 years anyway, haha.
All I can really tell you is that I have an X-B.I.T. solderless mod chip, with the external mini USB adapter, if that tells you anything.
<Also, I had a chance to open my Xbox yesterday to see if loose connections could be the problem but they all seem secure and still no luck on booting to the correct dashboard>
If you are willing to help me out just let me know what other information you may need and how I can get that information (ie. bios version, mod-chip version, etc.)
I'm completely in the dark so any info could be helpful.

Hello,
Is there any chance you can post a pic ?
If its solderless there`s a possibility one of the legs have come loose. _________________

So your Xbox just goes to the standard MS dash and not the custom dash, yeah? You get no error codes or flashing lights?
If that is the case, then it may be you just need to install the mod again. Get yourself a copy of AID v4.3 from here:
http://www.aidtracker.com/
...and see if your Xbox will boot to that. With a mod chip installed it should do, if its switched on. Alternatively, you can go the softmod route and reinstall it that way. You'll need SID (download from the same site), either Splinter Cell, Mechassault or 007 Agent Under Fire, and some way of copying the game save exploits to a memory card.
It could be something as simple as Xbox Live being attempted at some point in the past and caused your box to boot back to the MS dash.
Yeah that's basically it. I've scoured the forums and surprisingly I've found dozens of posts that sound like carbon copies of what I have written. I'm assuming since my mod chip light is on that means the mod chip is on and in which case there is a good chance that the problem is software related.
Just a silly question. When I download the Auto Installer Deluxe, I would assume I need to burn it as a bootable iso image on a dvd?
I've never attempted to use AID before. Does it do all the work or do I need to follow further steps to complete the process? A link would be helpful if there are tutorials pertaining to this. Does AID format the hard drive or just install necessary software?
As a note I edited my first post. After opening my xbox I found that I infact have a no solder X-B.I.T. mod chip, not Xecutor, as I had previously thought. I don't know if that makes any difference but just so you know.

Yeah, if the light on your chip is on its a good bet that its up and running.
Yeah, I had seen you'd edited your post but its ok cos it won't make any difference to the process, so I didn't mention it.
Once AID is downloaded you will need to burn it to a DVD or similar so that your Xbox can boot from it. The download itself includes a .pdf document which will walk you through how to use it, burn it etc, however this link may also be of some help to you:

It was me that did the vid in the link, so if you have any questions, just shout.
