Between PAL and NTSC? Because I have a Need For Speed Underground torrent file that I burned to a disc and loaded into my xbox. And it just kept playing this intro music and saying "blah blah presents Need For Speed Underground, Enjoy this awesome game!" The message continues to scroll over and over, no buttons do anything except start which just brings me to my Dashboard. The PAL and NTSC comes in when I mention that all of my other ISO's are NTSC and work fine, this is my first one to be a PAL, so maybe there's something I don't know? What's the difference between PAL and NTSC?
Thanks,

for strarter pal is for the european users of games and ntsc is for the american users of games to play them both you will need a program called enigmah video switch this can change ntsc into pal and so on
later hopes this helps

Basically, there are two dominant video systems in the world based on frame rates & lines. They are PAL & NTSC. There are others, such as SECAM, but they are much less common/widespread. The easiest, although not the most accurate, way to rememberwho has what is this: North America and Japan use NTSC and everybody else uses PAL. NTSC-US & NTSC-J are supposed to be a little different, but I'm not sure how big of a difference it makes... I've purchased a few NTSC-J discs and they play fine on a modded NTSC-US Xbox system.
Also, I've tried several PAL games. My experience has been very good. Most PAL games will play just fine on my NTSC system. A few won't. If you get sound but no video on a PAL game, it's probably a problem. If you're getting sound & video, I'd wonder about an ISO or disc burning issue.
Keep trying those PAL games, though. There are some great games that are PAL-only. "Mashed" is a great, "quirky" PAL-only games that come to mind. But, if you don't want to experiment, play it safe and stick to NTSC. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

hey ,
most of the pal games will play fine on modded xbox without switching the video mode ,
some pal games switch the video mode of the xbox when they load ,
(from ntsc to pal)
if you get a black screen when a pal game loads that means your tv doesnt have the pal support ,
but you can still play those games just fine if you have a tv that supports pal ,
i have the game you are talking about , it worked fine for the first few times , then same thing happened when you press start to skip the release intro , it just goes back to the dash , i dont think it has anything to do with the video mode ,
later

You can STILL play it even if the TV doesn't support PAL... it's just not as fun and you should really refer to it as an "audio game". The audio game NFS isn't nearly as fun as the video game NFS!
Seriously though, if you're really interested check out this link....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3319&item=3847719949&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V . It's for a product called "Lifeview TV Walker Ultra". It plugs into the USB2.0 port and, on your computer, it lets you play NTSC, PAL, even SECAM!
I'm trying to wait for this company's newest version, the Duo, before purchasing... but it's been a couple of months and it still hasn't made it to the US. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

I've noticed that the few PAL games that I have downloaded from bit torrents have played fine with no setting made. I always thought that I had to do something prior to playing a PAL game, but the most recent one..Halo2 also played fine. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

So did I! Could it be that some games are labeled as PAL, but are actually both PAL & NTSC? And the ones that don't work truly are PAL only? _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

Good to know as I was waiting for Halo 2 NTSC but I'll give the PAL version a go and see if it work. I was under the impression that there is a frame rate difference between the two. PAL is slower then NTSC. Is this related to electricity voltage differences between the countries.

It's actually more a function of the alternating current's frequency than the voltage. PAL uses 25fps (or 50 interlaced half-frames per second... usually just listed as 50fps) because the AC current in PAL countries tends to have a frequency of 50Hz (cycles/second). If you use the current's frequency to synchronize the frame rate, you'll, at least in theory, reduce flickering, etc. NTSC countries tend to use 60Hz AC current for 30fps (or 60 interlaced half-frames per second) for the same reason. Maybe there is an electrical engineer or videophile who can give you a better answer, but that is my limited understanding of the issue. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room
