Hey all, I just modded a machine for a customer that is trying to tell me that I gave him a machine with a stripped screw... He made mention that I used a power tool on it...

First, I use a 20 torx bit on a screwdriver that I do by hand. I do not use friggin power tools on my machines at all for fear of stripping the holes, not the screws.

He says he has opened plenty of cases and always has used a 15 wrench to do so, but this screw seemed more stripped than the others. Okay, right there...if the screws seem stripped when you are using a fucking wrench....right there tells me...YOU'RE USING THE WRONG TOOL!!

I have tried to just let him know that the screw isn't stripped, but he insists that it is. I am ready to blow up on this fucker, but don't want to bash a customer. I just don't see any other way to deal! I guess I am insulted that someone would think that I would pawn off a product that is flawed...how ever minor the flaw is. People here who know me know that I am a perfectionist, especially those who I have done machines for.

He already emailed me with several issues, first he couldn't get his controller to work right....then emailed me back to tell me he was using the number 2 controller.

There were a few other minor things that are all boiling down to user error, but man....how do you tell someone who just spent over 500.00 that they need to take a step back and learn!! He is going to be removing this mobo to install in his crystal case and I am fearing that he'll f#&@ up the LPC rebuild or something and then blame it on me!!

I mean, if you don't know what a torx screw is.....should you be fucking taking apart an Xbox????

later all

yeah , some noobs just dont learn ,

have him return the xbox to you so you can make sure everything works
as intended and fix all the f#&@ ups that he made ,

then after all is well , give it back to him and tell him that everything is good , and tell him that you will not be responsible for any further damage that results from his lock of knowledge or him disassembling the xbox ,

Luckily enough he emailed me back apologizing for saying that the screws were stripped...

I sent him some tutorial links from multiple sites showing how to open an xbox....each one says to use a 20 torx bit to do the trick. He acknowledged that he was using the wrong tool and everything else is kosher now.

He says that he has had motherboards off before, but I am just in awe how someone could be taking xbox's apart and not realize they were using the wrong tool...HA.

I'm pretty much washing my hands clean of the whole deal. Since he is opening on his own to transfer everything over to his crystal case, I can't be held responsible if he pulls a wire off from the LPC mod, or the IR Mod that I installed. And, because it's a 1.6 and he's xferring the mobo to another case I bet he ends up getting no power when he tries to turn it back on!!

I have only transferred one 1.6 from it's orginal xbox case to a Halo Case and the Standby resistor blew. It has happened so much that Ozodus wrote a manual on it called Xbox 1.6 Resurrection Guide.

I know I am going to get an email telling me that the xbox won't power up...I can just feel it.

At least I warned him it could happen. Nobody can say I didn't them so!!

My worst fears confirmed...

The xbox is dead... He transferred everything to another case and just like I suspected, the 1.6 mobo shit the bed. I know it's the standby resistor, but man...I feel bad for the guy.

I hate being right sometimes. I told him that this could happen... For anyone else out there contemplating removing a 1.6 mobo and putting it in another case...be prepared!!!!

Glad you got your machine up and running!

I still feel bad for the guy, although I do feel somewhat vindicated. I am very glad I did warn him about the 1.6 mobo swap. I have only swapped one 1.6 mobo from one case to the other, and it did the same thing. So far, a lot of people that I talked to have had the same thing happen. It must be a widespread thing if team ozodus wrote a manual on it!
