Is it possible to build a drive that will work in any xbox? I've never upgraded drives in my box before, so this is new. Basically, a friend of mine has a softmodded xbox that the drive died in, and i have some old 20gig drives laying around, so i figure i can build one with xboxhdm and just swap em out...but from what I am reading I need a copy of his eeprom which I don't have. Is it possible to put together a drive here and just swap it out?

so doing it this way will let me build drives using my box that will run in any box then? if thats the case, that would be great

but see, the hotswap method will not work without the eeprom as you need to lock the drive still.

You have 2 options in this sit5uation.

1)Install a modchip(solderless or soldered)

2)Be very good at soldering and create an eeprom reader to attach to your motherboard or his motehrboard in this case.

Im sorry that your options are so slim. If you need any help or links for the above options please let us know!

Check the name of the tut bro (HOTSWAP:recover a hd without eeprom backup) when you hook the ide from the PC to the xbox mobo it will reed the eeprom off it.
