Dear Xbox-HQ
I'd just like to thank all you lovely people for your help with linking me (indirectly) with tutorials and such, with your help I was able to fix my broken Xbox, upgrade to a 250GB hdd(to backup all my games!!) and install XBMC FINALLY!
My box had been laying around collecting dust for the better half of a year, since i screwed it.. with a cheapo modchip + not knowing what I was doing!
Just a quick question though with my harddisk I've got 230 or so gig on F drive, I was curious as to if the cluster should be set higher then 16k, because I couldn't seem to change it with xbpartioner (sp?)? Wouldn't want to collect a shitload of data and have it corrupt on me!
Cheers guys!!
I've offically been called a nerd by everbody thats visited since I put my ageing(but bloody awesome) Xbox on my network!

Will changing the cluster size delete the data that's currently on the partition?
Also what's the best & fastest way to copy my games onto the harddrive? I've been using the copy disc function in unleashx without a problem, but it seems kinda slow..
Should I replace my IDE cable to speed things along? Is it worth it?
Thanks Wes, you're a legend

Yeah man it will format the partition but so will data corruption if it were to happen.
I use either DVD to xbox or PXHDD loader to install my games to the HDD and the IDE upgrade seems to me to increase load times from the HDD but i cant say i have tested the speed of disk to HDD transfer.
I would skip that unless you was planning to do it down the line anyway.

Cheers mate, lucky I hadn't started to copy all the games yet!
Think I'll go with dvd2xbox..
This whole experience is like starting to use windows for the first time, too many choices and I can't work out which is better or what makes one different from the other! Arrgg..
I think I will change my IDE cable, if I can find a suitable replacement!
Good times.

Well man lucky for you you found this site to answer the questions, any time your unsure just ask.
Any PC store should have the IDE you need but you will need to tweak it a bit with folds to make it work.

OK! So I've just had a chance to try and change the cluster size fyi my setup in xbpartitioner are like this;
1: 5120MB
2: 786
3: 786
4: 786
5: 786
6:242994
I can't for the life of me, figure out why it's not letting me change the cluster size, no matter how hard I hit (Y)... So it seems I'll just have to stick with 16k, and hope for the best.
I've read that it's only meant to be 32k for over 250GB in a single partition, so hopefully I'll be alright.
I've got an IDE cable, but it's slightly different to the original one, the middle connecters little knoby bit it the oppisite way around.. ya with me

I may have spoken too soon, after re-reading that link you gave me, I've worked it out.
Now I'm running with 32k clusters, and 230GB of space to fill!!
Thanks again wes!

All good man and the reason your "knobby bit" it the opposite side is its for a PC but thats ok and work just as well if not better.
Congrats on your work paying off and make sure you back up your eeprom to your PC bro.
