Hi guys, I first of all I want to tell you that you guys have an awesome site here. I first visited here over 3 years ago and fell in love with my xbox after years of being a die hard PS fan. I have had many years of trouble free use out of my xbox modded with SID 2 and packed with the awesome AID 3 emulators and apps and such.
Well last week I came back to this site to see what was new and saw the new AID 4.20 and decided to try it maily looking to update my emulators and apps. I burned the disc with no problems and continued to try to upgrade my xbox, so I thought. I read through the pdf instructions and thought I knew what I needed to do. After backing up my MS dash and EEPROM I went through the one click softmod install. It then told me to I needed to unmount my virtual C before installing the softmod. I did this, rebooted the xbox as instructed and came back to the mod screen. I then went through the softmod installation with no problems, but when I reset the xbox it went to the retail MS dash. I tried to start it with the eject button but still went to the MS dash. Crap! Well, at least I don't have an error code right? So I come back here and watched DJB's tutorial video on softmodding a retail xbox with SID5. Every thing went smothly unti it came time to reset the xbox so it came up with the softmod dash, well mine didn't, it came back to the retail dash. I tried it again after watching the vidoe twice and reading through the AID directions. With no success getting SID 5 to load I tried to load SID 4.5, it loaded no problem and in no time I had my xbox softmodded again, finally... now alls I needed to do was reinstall all my emulators, roms, trainers, and skins again. Luckly I had the foresight to backup my C,E,&F drives before trying to "upgrade" my xbox. So I FTP everything back over and restart my xbox thinking finally... I am done. Nope.
Now for some reason my xbox is stuck in a loop, when I boot it up the green X comes up, then the microsoft pops up below it, then the xbox reboots and cycles through the same cycle. Even when I boot it with the eject button it does the same thing.
So I threw in the new copy of AID 4.20 I made started it up and the disc works. My question is what do I do? I know the disc has everything I need to fix my xbox, jsut not exactly what to do. I am not worried about loosing anything on teh xbox as it is backed on my pc. Should I just format the HDD and reinstall the MS Dash using the AID disc, or just simply reinstall the MS dash, or do I have other problems at hand.
Thanx in advance.

When you reinstalled your backup C and E it over wrights the new one you built so just restore the HDD to stock and resoftmod with SID5.
Only add files and folders from your backups that the xbox dosent have like your Apps and emus and so on.

wes 213, I appreciate your reply. I do have FTP connection with the AID disc in the xbox, can I transfer my backup of c and e back onto the xbox and call it done? I can see that my C drive just has the retail MS files and no SID files, I take it that the xbox is looking for the softmod dash that isn't there.
What is the easiest way to take it back to retail?
Thanx again!

Just use the App on the AID 4.20 disk and if you have a Virtual C Drive unmount it then do the Removing the SID Softmod from your Xbox option.
Once that is done you can use the SID 5 to re-softmod and just add the Apps and emus and stuff you need and not all the C and E files.

Well, I tried to reinstall sid 5 and ended up in the same loop with the green X showing up then it powercycles over and over. I tried to unmount the C and uninstall sortmod again but no success. I am going to try to attatch a few screen shots of my C and E drive contents, my backup files are on the left. I don't know if these will help but if anyone needs more info just let me know. I am going to leave my xbox alone for now, I don't want to mess it up. Thanx.

I must have installed the softmod to E at one time or another. I always woundered the same thing but was always afraid to delete it. I will admit I don't know exactly what I did or didn't do, just hoping I can salvage my xbox. I realize I risk messing up my xbox but I just can't live with it stock! LOL
So what do ya think wes213? Did I screw myself?

If your willing to start from scratch you could use your eeprom back up with xboxhdm to build a stock hdd file structure and resoftmod with a clean slate.
By using the softmod uninstaller your C drive is the only thing that really changes so the prob must be in your E drive.

Yeah, I used a fresh set of MS Dash files from the AID 420 disc. I can see them on C and there are no other files there so the problem must be on E. So basicly I can use the xboxhdm maker to create and new C and E and FTP them over, right? Please excuxe my ignorance, just don't do this everyday. Thanx man.

Yes you will get just the stock MS dash files aka the C and E drive of a stock xbox and build an xboxhdm boot disk with the fresh C E drive and your xbox eeprom.
Then just use the boot disk and guide that comes with xboxhdm to do a build from scratch.
