I'm trying to SoftMod one of my Xbox's for the first time. I'm using Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq. I can do a MS Backup and a Mod backup, but when I try to do an "Install Softmod", it crashes with a Failed Error message, it trys to extract apps.rar and it Fails with an error code 0. What should I do? Is there a better way to do this? I can FTP into my Xbox still so I can transfer files over, I just need to know what to do. Thank you for your help and time.....

What version of MS dashboard does your Xbox currently have? You might want to try a MS Dashboard update by using a Xbox Live enabled game, then attempting to cnnect to Xbox Live. This will force a dashboard update if you are currently running a lesser version.

Well, I guess I did something really stupid. I actually got the latest version of SID and got it on my memory card, but when I try to transfer it from the memory card to the xbox hard drive via MS Dashboard I get an error message saying that it can't copy. I think I might have deleted everything from E because I was trying to clean it up and I thought that MS Dashboard would recreate the folder, etc. I guess I wasn't really thinking. So, right now I can bring up MS Dashboard and I can boot up the Games, but I can't run SID from the game saves anymore, and I can't get the SID software to the HD. What can I do now? Thanks...

If you got the eeprom backup saved to your PC you can rebuild the HDD with XboxHDM.

Well, I didn't backup the eeprom before because I didn't know that was important. If you don't have a backuped up eeprom then is your xbox dead forever? I actually fixed it. When I ran Splinter Cell it created the E saved games folder and I was able to copy the SID to the hard drive and I ran the install and got it modded. I do have a few questions. If I decide to install a new hard drive what is the latest version of XboxHDM and is that the best thing to use? Where can I get it from? I can't find it on Xbins. Also, I tried doing the eeprom backup and the only place I can find the file is /E/UDATA/21585554/000000000000/backup/, why is it putting it there and how do I know if that's the backup of my eeprom? Also, I don't have a drive F. Why is that? OK, thanks again for all your help and time!!
PS- Also, the light on the front of the xbox is staying orange instead of green. I assume that's because it's been softmodded. Is it normal to do that? Thanks again!!

No man your eeprom backup will be in the E or C depending on Ware you told SID to put it in a folder named Backups as for the light it stays orange to let you know your running the softmod and not to go on live.
