This is my first post so please be kind.
I have a softmodded xbox v1.4 (SC Game Save Exploit using SID 3.1, single boot using nk patcher). Followed SID tutorial to the letter.
I've been having problems booting to Unleashx dash, sometimes having to press power button on and off several times before it booted. It's steadily got worse and now i get nothing, just a black screen.
In attempt to improve things i removed and reloaded softmod three times but it didn't make any difference.
Symptoms -
By pressing eject button several times i sometimes get xbox logo with microsoft beneath and it just hangs. If i press eject again it goes to a black screen. Several button presses again and it sometimes booted to unleash x.
Now it doesn't boot to unleash x at all. 1/100 presses of the eject button and i'll get the xbox logo hanging and that's it.
By pressing power button i get solid green. Pressing eject i get flasing green that stays flashing forever.
Any support would be greatly appreciated.

ok, check it out, i need someone with the clean MS Dash to give this guy a link so he can do what im about to explain to him.
Ok man, what u need to do is put the game back in and load it up to the softmod screen. Once your here you need the MS Dash, so dont do ANYTHING untill you get that.
After you get the MS Dash you need to completely format your hard drive, do NOT turn off your xbox yet, leave it on, then FTP in and send the contents in the MS Dash folder to your C drive.
If you need further assistance with this, gimme a few days to get to my house and i will be able to talk to you on Yahoo or AIM or something and even host the MS Dash for you.
Last but not least, this process is going to make you have to completely start over with the whole modding process. BUT don't use the 3.1, there is a newer version out now called SID 5, can be downloaded in the downloads section. _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

Hay guy welcome to the HQ.

No need to think about that crap we dont flame you for not knowing it all here and try our best to get things back to running.
You make the first post count dont you man. LOL
Cuz thats a new one to me, have you ever opend the xbox for anything or added anything to it thats not stock?
Its sound to me like a trace on the mobo might be near brakeing.
Thanks TheRealHypnotiX for the advice but i can't even load the game, so i can't get to the sid installer menu to do what you're saying. Mostly i get a black screen and that's it. No video or audio. I am using an original hd pack and had changed from pal to ntsc using the video switcher. Have since tried using normal composite av lead but with no success.
By the way i missed out that when i boot with eject i get flashing green which doesn't change. Once in a blue moon i'll get the xbox logo with microsoft beneath and it just hangs. I'll then press eject again and it goes to black screen again.
wes213 - I have opened the xbox to look for scorch marks anywhere but haven't seen any. I changed the dvd rom using my other crystal v1.6 but it doesn't help. Apart from that everything is stock.

Damn thats odd, and your not getting any clicking sounds from the hdd?
And if you get time might try swaping out the ide cable, not sure that wold effect the eject and all but its worth a shot.
I'm getting some clicking sounds from the hd briefly and the dvd is trying to read disc (game disc or cd or aid). Normally the disc would spin at half speed and then when the game loads it increases. But currently it hangs at half speed and makes faint ticking noises like a clock ticking.
I'll try and swap ide cables and even the hd and see what errors i get. Seemingly if i get error 6 it means the mobi is ok.
Sorry, mobo!! I'm such a newbie tyring to talk the lingo!

If that ticking sound is comeing from the HDD then its time to back it up, the ticking in an hdd is its way of saying "im about to die".
But on the bright side it keys you in to why its been acting up.
Swaping out the hdd with one from a second stock xbox wont work since the eeprom wont match.
Luckily enough i backed up the hdd recently when i saw things going down hill.
How will this help me? If it does at all.
The 1.6 that i have may be of use. It died recently by my own stupid fault. I hotswapped it in an attempt at softmodding (enthusiasm ovetaking my abilities i think) using a tut i found but unfortunately the hdd timed out. I took it to a local repair shop and they advised chipping it would resolve the matter. A few days later they returned it to me saying i had a faulty ide controller. I now get the 3 boots effect with the christmas lights. Funnily enough it's a different error than the plain old error 07 that i had when i handed it in!!!
Somebody has advised that to confirm if it is the ide controller to swap the hdd. Seemingly if i get an error 06 than the mobo is ok. Yes? I'll use the other ide cable to take that out of the equation too.
Other than that maybe i should just pack all this in and buy a second hand one and try again. Saying that though i have been told that modding serioulsy reduces the life of the machine due to the extra strains that it brings, what with it not being used as it was first intended. If so can i prolong it's life. Heatsinks and fans etc??

If the prob is the hdd and ide then replaceing them wold make it run again but if its the mobo your best bet wold be to get a second hand xbox and start over.
One of the xboxs i use is a 1.0 first line and its running fine so that shows that yes adding fans and keeping cooler will make them last alot longer.

My computer makes load like buzzing noises when it starts up somethings. Then i goes away after it starts loading XP. This has been off and on for about 3 months now. Could my computers HDD be going out? _________________

Open the side of the pc and pull the hdd as far out as you can with out unhooking it, put your ear to it and turn on the PC.
If the clicking/ grinding sound is comeing from it your hdd just might be on its last leg.
Let me know how that little test turns out if you try it man.
