I have just bought an xbox from ebay which was supposed to be chipped with the xecuter chip, but it turns out to be a softmod, I opened it up and checked and there is no chip installed. It plays my import games and I have tried it with a backup I made and that works too.
What I would like to know is if I can put xbmc on it as I want to use it for media streaming on the network?
I have another xbox which is chipped and that works fine and does all I want it to, I would like very much to use the new one in the same way.
Any help with this would be appreciated, and I hope it's not a daft question to ask.
Many thanks,
darksidechris.
hi,
There is the possibility that your XBox has had the TSOP flashed (this is a procedure of modifiying the onboard bios chip ).
Anyway, with regards to your question. The simplest solution would be do download AID 4 and use this to install XBMC as an application to your `E` drive. Theres plenty documentation to help you with AID but if you get stuck leave another post here.
Best of luck
Thanks both for that.... I have AID DVD which I used to reload my chipped box, but I would like to ask a couple more questions...
I can load the AID dvd on the xbox no probs, and can install the xbmc to E, that should be easy enough even for such a newb
Once that's on the E drive, how do I run it?
If I install as the default dash and it doesn't work, how do I recover it?
And finally, how do I tell if it's softmod or TSOP? The seller won't be of any help coz he thought it was chipped!!
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'd rather get it right than ruin it

There are a few ways to check for a softmod: look through the gamesaves for a Mechassault, Splintercell, or 007: Agent Under Fire gamesave with files containing dashbaords and .xbe's and stuff. See if theres a folder in the C: partition called SID.
For a TSOP: check to see if there are any points soldered to the motherboard that dont look like they belong. _________________
Not too sure ow to look at the c drive tbh, can I ftp into it like my chipped one?
Looked at the save games, and I have auto installer deluxe 3, with a subfolder called Unleash. If I click on that, it says copy or delete. Can't see mechassault or Splintercell savegames etc.
I didn't notice any odd wires or solder points when I had it apart yesterday, but I was really just looking for a chip.
Looks like just the standard MS dash. Sorry to be a pain..... Can I change it easily without making a hash of it? I have the AID DVD here, and it does actually load if I put it in, I just don't want to muff it up and end up with a useless xbox!

If it loads to the stock MS dash, and loads the AID disc, its gotta be a TSOP. (someone correct me if I'm wrong here) If it was softmodded with a single boot, it would load straight to the modded dash. If it was a dualboot, I dont think it would be able to load the AID disc in the MS dash boot.
Dont worry about being a pain..... We're her to help bud. _________________
Fair play, it deffo boots to MS dash, and loads the AID dvd, should I try to install the evox dash then or will that render it a doorstop?

no it shouldnt, if you want just load your XBMC into your E Drive it should just load off when you turn it on. my box is softmodded i can help you with whatever.
OK, I've run the AID dvd and installed XBMC to the E drive. When I turn the xbox on it just loads the MS dash. Do I need to install evox dash then?
Chris.
When your XBox boots up, at the point where the green `X`appears, beneath it does it say excutor or evo or anything other than microsoft ?
Also, use the AID disks built in file explorer to access the `C`drive.

When it boots it says Microsoft at the bottom of the screen. Have used the AID dvd to explore the files, and there's no SID folder.

If it has a differen't bios it would say something else, so i don't know what you have then. It seems your running the stock bios almost. _________________
