Okay here is my problem, I am looking for a dvd cleaner for the lens. I remember reading that you should never do this and it might make things worse. That microsoft does not support or suggest doing this at all.
Ok I also read that some people done this but they use specific ones and not the run of the mill store bought cleaner with brushes. It has a certain brush and fibers and liquid, etc etc.
My question is to the community what would be the best and most safest to use? I can't find a product on this and would appreciate a link and help plz. Thanks!

Thats exactly how I do it... I've saved a few xboxes by doing this. you just pop off the case so you can get at the laser and very carefully clean it off. _________________

So you are saying I have to this right here? Then clean it with a Q-tip?

Yup... the first xbox dvd drive I took apart was a philips and it was a breeze. You really only have to go as far as you need to to get the laser. _________________

Dang, that crap scares me to death, I might be superstition but I been having bad luck the past few days. Knowing myself I might mess it all up and wont work any more.
With that tut, anyone thing I should use another one of is that one fine? All I need is a screw driver right? I want to be 100% positive what "items" I need before doing this ya know?

Well...
If all you're doing is cleaning the lens, you really don't need to disassemble the whole damn thing into component parts as shown in the tutorial. Just break it down until you have clear access to the laser lens (unless you plan on cleaning the mirror as well, which I wouldn't recommend unless cleaning the lens doesn't work for you). As for a screwdriver, yes, that's all you need. More specifically, two of them: a Torx T-20 for the mondo screws holding your case together and a Torx T-10 for the plastic array holding the DVD drive (and HDD) in. It CAN be done with a Phillips or even a flathead screwdriver--I took apart my first case or two with a pair of Phillips screwdrivers before I broke down and bought some Torx bits--but you risk stripping the screwheads if you're not careful.
A last bit of advice: be gentle! Don't blow on the lens to help it dry, don't touch it with anything except the Q-tip, and don't press...a light touch is all that is required. With a bit of care, you should have nothing to worry about.

Thanks Math, for the greatly detailed advice you don't know how much this will help me. As for the screws part and torx etc. I did that the first time I opened my box using phillips lol. I did in fact strip a screw. Lucky I have so many little screws from old computers and computer parts I saved. Its a bag full of them and one of them fit. Just screwed that thing in.
Okay I will be sure not to blow on it or anything of that nature. I might as well clean the mirror. I bet its dusty as hell, this xbox is the first model to come out. That just tells you how old it is.

Its all good man dont clean it with a hammer and youll be fine, when i first started modding i pulled a dvd drive out took it all apart and slaped it back together with little to no idea of what i was doing and it still worked .
Be careful but dont over think it.

Ok one last question, as for the mirror?
Is that the mirror? The see through thing by the laser?
I csnt find it but oh well, I cant remove the tray even when I lifted that thing it wont budge. I wont force it or try any harder. I got to the lens and just used what was needed with a q-tip. Now its just dtying out now then I guess I can close it. It had a dust rind on the lid lol. A shape of a cd...

With the Philips drive, theres a manual release switch near the gears. You gotta jam a paperclip in and you can open the drive manualy. It shows you how to do it somewhere on www.llama.com

Honestly the only reason why Microsoft says not to clean your lens is so that the machines go out and you either send it to them so they make money or go buy another machine so they make money....
For best results practice on an old dead IDE CDrom drive first, Get the operation down before performing on the real patient....Thats what I usually do before cleaning or solderin something....
Also dont go over 75% Isopropyl Alcohol(rubbing alcohol)....Any higher and can result in bad things to electronics, lenses, and well just dont do it...
