I used xboxhdm 1.9 and every time i do it even vga console and text it says "This machine is no Xbox"

Maybe try powering the drive with the xbox. Also, check the hardrive list to make sure the drive is lockable --> http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_HardDrives

it would be the safe bet. Xboxhdm 1.9 is tricky. you gotta do everything exactly right or it wont work.

Im pretty sure chimp dosnt work with 1.6 xboxes

The graphical display of Chimp will not work with version 1.6 Xbox's, you have to telnet in if you're going to use chimp on that version.

Otherwise, for all other models, just follow the step-by-step guide under my sig on how to use Chimp and get the HDD upgraded in no time.

good to see everything worked out for you. Just for referance: when I got the "this is no xbox" error, I used a cdrw and it worked fine.

There should be a guide for this one in the tutorials section, need any help with it, just shout. As for Chimp on your other one, glad you got it sorted, its such a simple app to use really.
