Feel free to beat me around the head with a lead pipe if this is really obvious - I can't find anything on it after searching around for most of the day.. Smile Guess I chose the wong day to stop taking crystal meth..

I have an Xbox modded with a 2.2 PRO modchip (Xecuter) - I think that's what it is, anyways. I have EvoX as a Dash, and everything was fine but I saw mention of AID, so I downloaded it, burned it to a DVD-R, and was able to boot to it and get it running fine. I ended up selected UnleashX as a dash and installed, and everything worked great!

I left it for a few weeks, and I took out the AID DVD and put it in to boot from it once again to just see what else was available for other selections.

Nope. The Xbox boots, shows the XECUTER2 on the screen under the Xbox logo (like it usually does), and then goes into Unleash/X. H'mm...I thought it was supposed to boot from the DVD?

Under Unleash/X's main menu, there is a bit that says "Tray:" and whether it's open/closed/empty/etc. When I have the AID DVD in there, it says "Empty". Placing it into the DVD drive and closing it has it reading for a few seconds, but then going back to Empty.

It's making me scratch my head in frustration. /grins I've gone into the settings and essentially told it to "autolaunch" DVD/games/etc. when they're placed int the drive..

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the HQ and we hope you enjoy the site.

It seems odd that the disk wold boot then not boot but it sounds like you may have a dirty disk or dvd lens.
pop it open and put one drop of alco on a q-tip, then lite as you can clean the lens and make sure you dont have any dust in you disk drive.

Might want to try reburning the disc first if your like me and are sick of opening the case.
the aid tracker is down so you might need to hunt for it.
Ill post back when its up and running again.

/sigh

Yeah, I reburned the disk (once to CD-R, the other to DVD-R) and it doesn't read it either.

Even more wierd is that I put in a DVD movie, and it won't read that either!

I'm thinking I may have a burnt out DVD-ROM; As it is, I'll have to pop it open and see if there's anything I can do about it. I have a 2nd Xbox here for parts (so to speak) so maybe I'll pull out it's DVD and test it.

Thanks!

I have Gentoox installed (F drive), so I kicked it off and went in to see if I could use the DVD-ROM and mount just a normal data DVD...

Yup. Wierd thing is in Gentoox I can mount a CD/DVD just fine and look at it.

Just under Unleash/X / etc. it doesn't see squat. What the heck did I do? Smile

Help!

It's a Samsung drive (605 something). Just saw it in a menu.

If it was a DVD-ROM/error, I'd expect it wouldn't read nothing at all.

However, I put in an audio CD, and it finds the music fine and runs it (using XBMC).

I threw in a DVD movie - one I had of my kids' that was laying around, and it detected as a Audio Track CD - even in the MS Dashboard, it loaded up the music player and said track 1 was 255 minutes long.

Wierdness. Works fine in Gentoox, though, strangely enough.

Is there some way I can do a bios flash to my Xecuter to see if it brings this back, or what could have caused this? I would expect that it would just stop working, period, rather than this wierdness.

I allways found that drive to be the best at reading all media and this is by far the oddest thing i have seen when, it comes to a disk drives.
I'll do what i can to find more options on it but right now im lost and im not sure whats left to try. Confused

Well, up all night - figuring out how to do an eeprom update over my LPT port was fun (and digging through my garage while its -30C outside wasn't..), however, I now have a 1.1 Xbox modded to X2 5035 in bank1&2, with a Cromwell BIOS in bank3 and my old X2 bios in bank 4.

Unfortunately, I have to report the DVD-ROM is still having issues. As the 2nd Xbox I was going to use was only for Linux, I'll yank out its DVD-ROM when the time comes and put it in this one and see if it fixes anything.

On the negative side, using 5035 prevents me from running Gentoox, seems that the module snd-intel8x0 is hanging../sigh Maybe it just needs a recompile...Edit: It went through on a reboot. /shrug

Took a look, can snag the same Samsung drive from Ebay for a about $40.

Bleh, $40 for a replacement drive (if I need it), $40 for an Xecuter 2.6 for the other box...at least I have a 300GB HD for it already!

Thanks!
