I never looked in to it myself but i dont think you can.
Most of the stuff i read on it said that the motherboard and hdd are a set deal and youll need to chip the box to run a new hdd on the M.B. sorry guy but thare is a tut in here for how to use the hdd in your pc.
I might be wrong if so some one fill me in.

Without the eeprom you would need a chip to install any kind of hdd. _________________

Sorry guy i got your email and as my boy bongripz here has said you wiil need a mod chip to install a new or used harddrive in your xbox.
You can softmod and hot swop it but youll need the OG xbox hdd for that motherboard to soft mod in order to get the the eeprom that matches your M.B.
hope this clears it up for you and you might want to check your email setting or something, i used reply to sender to email you back but it just sent it back with some err crap.
Well i am in a similar position, i have an xbox with no hdd, it is chipped with an x3 but its a 1.6b and i have been told i need to hotswap the chip? But i dont know much about that, so what do i need to do to get it going? Thanks
