my friends son has an xbox which he thought was chipped, but found to his dismay that it was soft modded, what he did was try to install auto installer deluxe, and formatted the hard disc first with the installer. so that the xbox was useless.
i installed a duox 2 modchip for him, but the xbox still does not work.
by the way it is 1.6 model, every thing seems ok box powers up, tray ejects, eject light flashes green then stays green when disc is inserted
nothing comes up on television, and chip led does not light up.
the chip switch is in no. 1 mode for a 1.6 motherboard.
i used the lpc rebuild to install the chip and removed all the pins not required as in the installation diagrams, DO is connected and BT also can any one help. i may have posted this in the wrong place, if so please help

first, (which im sure u have already done) check all your connections on the chip & pcb rebuild .... also try the Bios switch in a different position.
can u boot the AID dvd ? ( or any copied game ) if u can, then the chip is working & u need to use the AID dvd to install a dashboard (hence the blank tv screen )

i have tried to install a 1.6 bios, also auto installer deluxe, which work on other xboxes, but screen stays blank, the lpc rebuild seemed quite easy but i wonder if they are as good as they make out. has anyone taken these back out and how hard is it. i might have to take it out and use wire to rebuild, unless any one knows of anything better

there doesnt seem to be any posts about the reliability of the pcb rebuild, so i doubt that is at fault - although u may wanna remove it just to eliminate it from this problem.
its strange that the machine boots and the lights dont FRAG ??? im at a loss.
now i dont wanna sound patronising, but u are powering the machine with the `power` button & not the tray eject button ?

i have tried booting from both dozens of times, i know aLL CABLES
are ok because they are used on my grandsons box

hmmm,
ok, try to power the xbox on with the power button then quickly hit the eject button ???
try the standard AV cable
flick the switch, see if u can get cromwell to boot
re-check your solder points
EDIT : just received a duo x2 & duo lite from custom-xmodz (great service- top bloke) & have found a mate who is willing to let me bastardize his 1.6 Xbox, i`ll install it this weekend and let u know of any problems _________________

im going to have to ask have you tryed switch setting the other way
a chip should come preflash with a bios that will flash the chip with a hacked bios
i just been to there install guide and it look like they pre install a bios evox m8 this is against the law so i say its should be flash with flashbios
it my have
flashbios 3.0.1 on bank 1 will not work on v1.6b but works on v1.0 to v1.6 xboxs
flashbios 3.0.3 on bank 2 will not work on v1.6 but works on v1.0 to v1.6b xboxs
3.0.3 will give you a blank screen on v1.6 xboxs
3.0.1 will do the same on v1.6b xbox but the eject button should be orange but i have x3 x2 installs but try other switch settings
and did you solder the BT wire

I have the X3 on a 1.6, the rebuild works awesome! Only took minutes to install, everyone says its difficult but i find it VERY easy.
Anyway, could you tell me what happens when you turn on the xbox? What comes up on the screen? What does the eject led do?

On Xbox Version 1.6 a glitch in Flashbios 3.03 means the box may boot with a blank screen and require sometimes 20 reboots in order to get the flash screen to appear.
also
Check the D0/LFrame connection to the motherboard. Check the Red LED is flashing on the modchip. If the LED is not flashing check the BT point connection. Check if power is to the chip by either measuring for 3.3v on pin 9 of the chip (2 down from the D0 pad) or link a wire between the BT pad on the chip and pin 9. If still no LED lashes then check the LPC soldering and make sure 3.3v is getting to the LPC at pin 9 _________________

It is def. an install problem.....just recheck all of your soldering points. Especially for the rebuild.

ive come to the conclusion that this is a shite chip for a 1.6.
installed it without a hitch ( the lpc rebuild was a poor fit, certain holes/solder points are slightly out of line)
booted the xbox ........... Nothing!
flicked the switch .......... booted into evo m8 bios, great
tried again the following morning & it frags, removed chip from pin header, machine still frags ?
after much pulling off of chip, rebooting, switch flicking, fraging & booting ive decided to install it into a v1.4 to flash it with 5035 bios. then reinstall it into the v1.6
if this solves it ill post back, if it doesnt i hight have to go into hospital also .. to remove xbox fragments from my face & head ! _________________
