Hi there,

my Xbox was modded by a dealer in mid 2005 with, according to what he told me, an Aladdin XT chip. The box boots into the microsoft dash when powered on with the eject button or with a short touch of the power button and into XBMC with a longer one. In the latter case, the box displays "XECUTER2" instead of "Microsoft" on the bottom screen border. The box is equipped with a 80 GB hdd which is filled to the max.

I'm neither sure of the chip nor the BIOS since they dont get recognized:

I want to update my BIOS with AID 4.02. However, I don't know which one I should choose.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Surest way to know is to crack your box. If you see a chip, compare it to pictures you find online, or snap a photo and post it here for someone to identify for you if you're unsure. I'm by no means an expert, so perhaps those hash strings you posted will mean something to someone else and opening your box will be unnecessary...

Likewise, my experience with modding has largely been restricted to hard mods (chips), although I did help a friend soft mod his box, so I am unsure whether a soft modded box would respond to different power button presses the way a chipped box does. It does not strike me as all that unlikely, however. Still, considering the cost involved in having a dealer chip your box for you, the first thing I would have done upon recieving it would be to test it to make sure it worked...the second thing would be to crack it open to check whether the dealer had actually chipped it or merely softmodded it and pocketed the difference. So long as you don't do anything stupid, there is next to zero risk of screwing anything up if you open your box and peek around inside.

Thanks for your reply. I have to clarify here that I'm very sure that the box is equipped with some modchip - in fact I stood beneath when it was fitted into my box. It also looked very similar to this and I got an invoice stating an Aladdin XT.

I'm just not sure if it's a genuine chip since it's identified as 'homebrew'. Same applies to the installed BIOS - my understanding is that the identification utility should know about a chip and a BIOS which were sold at least a few hundred, if not thousand times alone by that sole dealer.

This is why I'm looking for someone more experienced than me to assist me in the task of flashing a more recent BIOS.

(Copied from http://www.fixnchipz.co.uk/page17.html)

Bios Types and the Aladdin

For versions 1 to 1.3 any bios except the specific 1.6 bios types.

For versions 14 to 1.5 any Evox Bios M7 or Later. Any X2 Bios from 4979 onwards. Earlier X2 bios files do not support the Focus video encoder

For versions 1.6 M8.16 or M8+.16 (Any custom variant as long as it is the 16 type) Not X3

This means that your bios choice depends largely on your Xbox version. Do you happen to know what version your box is?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Aladding XT a 256k chip? The X2 5035 bios, at 512k, is too fat for it. If he goes with an Xecutioner bios, I believe the X2 4981 (256k multi-version) would be a better fit.
