ok well i was trying to get the dashboard i just installed tonight, evoX (or unleashx? one that came with installer) to recognize the emulator i downoaded from a disk (Surreal64). Its late at night and for some retarded reason after putting it in E drive i thought Formatting E drive would make it look for this kind of program, even though I know that formating will erase memory cards and such. so being stupid, i do it and it asks if im sure, i hit yes. and then i rebooted (or it did it itself, i dont remember).
well, now if there is no disk in it loads that xbox logo and then microsoft under it but freezes there. if i put a game in, it loads but nothing that had been saved can be recovered. i can still save and recover now but cant get to anything that was on it before including my xbox live account. and since i can't get to ms menu i cant create one. i tried saveing install system info and mechassault game start up with linux on memory card but the game cant load linux profile directly from the card.
is there anything i can do to recover> i did make backup but i dont know if it is possible to get to it...

Ok, first of all, you've helped yourself by having the backup. What you'll need to do now is perform a hotswap on the drive.
There is a tutorial for hotswapping located under my sig, this should help you out.
ok thanks. but how likely is a hotswap to go wrong? it says it could possibly fry motherboard. since i was already planning on getting another harddrive, could i just do this?
both ways unlock the xbox HDD. Once unlocked when in my computer could I not just move my backup files to section E of the xbox drive?
edit: also, with unleashx (im now pretty sure it was unleash), where and how do you store an emulator like Surreal?

I've never known a hotswap to fry anything and I've done a fair few in my time.
That tutorial is a very long and complicated thing, if you're getting a new drive anyway, you can use XboxHDM, SID and AID to get you a brand new, up and running Xbox, long before you're halfway through that tutorial.
I would imagine, Emulators would be stored on F:\Emulators. Thats where they are in EvoX.
