Hey folks,
I've modded quite a few XBox's in my time and this is the first time that I've tried a softmod. Doing it for a friend who has no money.
I'm using Mechassault yet when I select "Run Linux" all I get is a black screen. Bugger.
I've done a lot of reading which seems to say that this is 'cos the XBox has been modded before and I should back out the old mod. I can see no trace of a mod as everything looks stock. I checked the dashboard and it's 5890.
I don't know the history of the XBox as it was bought used from EB Games although I can see that it has never been opened.
Anyway a mate told me in the past, he's not around at the moment, that you can do a softmod by first installing a modchip, doing the softmod and then removing the modchip.
Anyone have any pointers there as I can't find anything no matter which forum I look at?

I have no doubt you could get around it with installing a modchip and then formatting the entire hdd etc to get it back to normal.. Id find that easy but you could also use pc tools to format the hdd and install everything i would guess.
Hopefully another softmodding guru here will have some answers for you.. Im a little rusty..
