Some Background:
The Xbox I currently have has been modded through the 007 exploit and has Evox installed on it. I had problems with it so I reinstalled the dashboard, but when I restarted the xbox, I received error 21. Evidentially, when the program was reinstalled it left fragments of files here and there so I got the dashboard error. I had no idea at the time what the error meant and my Xbox was still playing games so I figured I just lost the main menu. A day later it wouldn't play discs (error 16)... after research I figured out that the time settings were lost and that when the Xbox was booted up it could not find those settings because there was no dashboard.
Things I have done so far:
Tried AID, but the Xbox wasn't reading discs so there was no hope in that. I learned about hotswapping from a later google search. I have disassembled my Xbox and taken off the two ide cable connections on the DVD-ROM side. I tried using the hotswapping guides on this site, but they have not worked for me.I first put in the xboxhdm CD before I turn my PC (Dell) then I start it up again (with the ide cable from the hard drive to the mother board removed) and I pause it when it boots up (The screen right before it says something about device failure, because I don't have a hard drive plugged in.) I then start up my xbox (just the power cord plugged in, not the video, audio cables) immediately the led light flashes green and orange (I believe because the TV hookups are not in the TV.) I wait roughly
5 seconds (the time it takes for the flubber animation to complete) and then I remove the ide cable attached to the Xbox hard drive. Leaving the Xbox still on, I take the ide cable from my motherboard that was attached to my computer hard drive and put it into the male ide connector on the Xbox hard drive. I press the spacebar to continue booting and then all it does is continue the error page about the device failure and says I need to put in the whatever CD and press F1 or edit the boot up with F2. I cannot ever get the hotswapoping to work.
Is this whole hotswapping error caused by the fact that my TV hookups, RC cables I call them, are not hooked up to a TV? Is there something I am doing wrong?
Edit: I just plugged in the cable to the back of the Xbox and the orange and green led light do not flash, the green led light just comes up. I still cannot get the hotswap to work :\
