Hy there!
I have a xbox, I did a softmod. I love UnleashX.
I was able to get a 160 Gbyte seagate hdd .
Works well...
Now, I'm thinking to get a bigger drive.
My problem is that I can't get any drives that can be locked.
So... I was thinking to get a modchip.
Now come all my problems...
1. If I use a chip, will I be able to get UnleashX to be my dashboard?
2. Wich chip is the lowest in price??
Asking this becouse... I'm happy with the softmod features, doesn't really need any extras... Like lcd or other stuff.... But, I love UnleashX,
Don't wan't Evox or other dashboard. (maybe... XBMC).
So I need advice. I read about chips, but maaan, I'm not that smart...
Just can't choose...
Also, few of My frineds wan't to upgrade HDD, to atleast 250 Gbytes.
So, wich chip can You recommend to Us?
1. Cheap
2. works with any xbox
3. have the function to use non locked HDD
4. supports UnleashX, or XBMC dashboard.
Thank You!

First question, do you use XboxLive?
Cos if you don't, then you don't need to worry too much about locking the HDD and you can simply keep your existing setup and clone it onto the new drive. That would save you a lot of effort and time.

Ok, well i have read you have hard drives which are not lockable. Since you wanna get a chip but you say you want a cheap one, im going to tell you now, price is very important, cause what you pay for is what you. I'm not talking about good looks i'm actually talking about quality. I would Honestly go with the Xecuter 3, even tho it has sort of a high price it really is the best on the market!!!!
To answer the other question, you can have any dash you like with a chip, just download AID 3.1(Auto-Installer Deluxe) and it has everything you need.
One last thing i'd like to throw in as you said your not to familiar with this stuff. You can also get solderless adapters so you don't have to solder anything what so ever.
I've done quit a few mods in my time although I haven't been modding long the guys here at HQ are the best at answering questions and have taught me everyhting i know!!!! I have great experience just to let you know, not a to new to this, so I hope you will take what i have posted to you into consideration!!! What ever you choose to do ENJOY IT!!!! XBOX RULES
Okay, Than You for the advises.
can You tell me?
It seems like I can get Aladdin chips for realy cheap.
I don't know the quality of those chips, so ..
What can You tell abaout Aladdin?
I'm familiar with sodering, and electronic stuff, I'm a material tester in a chemical lab, and I repair the testing equipment. (Those are really sensetive stuff, latest tech, and... a piece of shit... Something is always going mad )
So, solderless chips are out.
I have acces to some really nasty stuff
I did even reflow some x360's , I can handle chip installs.
No problem.
But this is off topic now
If anyone can tell Me that Aladdin meets Our requirements, and some words on quality, or what to wach for (common errors, maybe?)
I would be really happy
(Don't ask why I don't buy a x360, seen a few, well, I
would better like it, but MAN that is a SHIT construction..... I Would be suprised if ANY of tham could last for more than a year with evry day use..)

lol, my cuz baught one and played it everday for about a month and got the 3 red lights HAHAHA
Now, on the th aladin, ive heard of people using them BUT if you do wanna go the cheapER way, get th duox 2, its from what ive heard "reliable" and is actually a good chip.
So givin what all we have talked about so far, what will you get? the Xecuter 3, the aladin, or the duox2? lol
I gona checq duox2 and aladdin chip, on this site i found a table showing specs of chips.
Just to know if evry xbox versions can be done with them.
Well, the job I have...
Many people around in my contry had try to apply for the job, but out of 32 people only I had license. Evry year I have to take an exam for this licence. I need to test different materials, do some tests. This is iportent, it showes hom precise are my mesurments.
So, back to topic... I gona search info on duox2, ad see if it can handle all versions. If so, i listen to You, and get one of them
Can't wait to have a big HDD
One more question, but bit off topic...
If I have a external hdd with usb, and make the usb mod on my xbox, canI use it as a portable device to transfer music and movies, and such things to an other modded xbox?
That would be just fine... But don't know if I can.
And.. How fast would that be?
Fast enough to play music and movies from?
(I guess slow for gameing
If your not looking to play on Xbox live, than why waste money on the mod chip? Why not rather spend the $4 on the molex powersplitter and use CHIMP. Nothing hard about it (except the using chimp for v1.6, which im still trying to figure out) But hey, if you dont have a 1.6 its easy. You can clone your hdd so you wont even lose your settings or Unleash X. If your going to use a a HDD bigger than 137gb than you can use the AID disc to format and prepare the G partition. All this takes around 30 minutes, and the good thing is you only spent $4. Plus you can reuse the splitter. Heres the linkl for the guide to using CHIMP. http://www.aideluxe.com/manuals_aid30_0g.html#chapter
Good Luck!

Just on the topic of chips: in my opinion, the DuoX2 seems to be the best of the cheaper chips, and is compatible with all versions. However, if you are willing to spend the bucks, its X3 all the way!!

Keep in mind though, if you want to avoid installing a modchip (i.e. use a softmod again) you will need a lockable HDD _________________

Okay, that is good news. I gona pick up some duox2 at maybe next week.
Thank You for the advise.
And, to answer the Q. of MasterMods,
I never wanted to use LIVE! , not just Me , Non of Us is intressted in LIVE!.
Then why spend money on a chip?
Becouse i can not get any large HDD with ATA lock feature.
Okay?
With out ATA lock, no way a sftmodded box can accept a new HDD.
As far as I know.
Now, the other question.
Did anybody try to connect an external HDD with USB to a modded Xbox?
If yes, then tell me, does it work? Can the Xbox recognize it?
