I softmod alot of xboxs and it seems like every other xbox goes WAY faster when it comes to transferring roms. Im adding 3 gig of roms/etc each time. Sometimes it takes only 20 minutes to transfer everything. Sometiems it takes almost an hour and a half! Most of the harddrives that im ftping to are stock xbox hdds. Is the difference due to the brand of the Hdd? I havent really noticed a certain brand that takes longer. Any help would be greatly appreciated! *By the way i have passive mode disabled. (it always go alot fast with pasv disabled)

do you have auto update terned on in xp and is you AV set for auto scan cus if your comp is updating or a virus scan is running in the back ground that will slow the transfer _________________ <a href="http://www.us.playstation.com/PSN/Users/BUD_TOKER_13"><img src="http://pid.us.playstation.com/user/BUD_TOKER_13.jpg" width="235" height="149" border="0" /></a>

Yeah, response seems spot on, so your data back and forth seems to be fine. I FTP loads of stuff to the Xbox using FlashFXP, and it seems to be quicker when its just a single file (no matter how large). If I'm FTP'ing folders, files etc it takes a while between each transfer.
Remembering that the maximum transfer rate is 100Mb (megabits) per second, it should be reasonably quick. On avaerage, its about 10 times faster than a download from the Internet.

Sounds like just one of those things unfortunately man, just see how you go with it, keep an eye on it.
If it gets really slow, try closing some apps down (firewalls, virus scanning etc) see if that helps.

I transfer stuff both wirelessly and with a cable and its allways faster with a cable. I'm not sure off the top of my head how long it takes with the wireless card but its definatly way faster than 2mb/sec _________________

A wireless transfer these days is about 54Mbs (Mega bits, not bytes) compared to a 100Mbs (mega bits) connection for a Cat5e cable. So you've already lost half the speed by using wireless.
Next, take into account that data over wireless never actually transmits at that speed, but much less. I have a feeling an average transfer would be somewhere between 10 - 15Mbs (Mega bits, which is about the same speed as USB).
If you're going to be transferring a lot of files and definitely on big files, use the cable. The difference is very very noticable. _________________ Chimp Tutorial

thats wierd.. wireless is easier becuase of the placement of xbox and computer, but what could i change to get it from 2MB/s to atleast 15MB/s which would be alot better, and i know cable is faster but wireless is just convenient.. _________________ (2) XBOX v1.4:

Physical factors can affect it. If it has to go through solid stone walls or half way across the house to reach it you're going to experience drop off in speed.
Also, what have you got receiving the wireless signal at the Xbox?

Well, i would definitely recommend transferring things via the cable. I know its a pain (I have to get my cable out every time I want to FTP something), but what you'll lose in 15 secs of cable connecting, you'll get back in transfer speeds.
I transfered 2.5Gb across yesterday in 13 mins. Couldn't do that wirelessly.
