I posted on Mon about a softmod gone wrong.
I tried to use the Splinter Cell exploit and got an "UNRAR ERROR" when trying to go to the "install soft mod" botton.
Like a dumbass I also managed to delete the linux files/saves.
Now I get the "service machine" screen with a "14" in the corner.
So far I've been told that the "AID" disk will fix it the problem. I've downloaded all of that, went through the instructions and burned the ISO to a DVD-R.
I popped it in and it didn't fix the problem, didn't do anything at all. The instructions even say that the system must first be soft modded.
So what are the next things to try?
I'm not in the position to try to do a hotswap as far as knowledge and setup.
Do I really need to have a mod chip installed to fix the problem? They seem a bit expensive considering I'm also wanting to upgrade the hard drive too. I mean a 65 dollar HDD plus a 70 dollar modchip etc. I could buy another used xbox and try to soft mod it for less than 70 if someone would confirm that the "UNRAR ERROR" is due to the composite video cables so I don't screw up another box.
I also found a guy who said he would fix it for 20 which seems reasonable but maybe it's not who knows?
Any suggestions out there?

The xbox has to be either hotswaped or have a mod chip put in....no other choices.
To set up a new hdd, you will have to go through a similar process of a hotswap.

Is the "UNRAR ERROR" caused by using composite cables or is it something else?

Put in a DuoX 2 GS and got everything back to working order.
