Hi all.
I have just purchased an Xbox, which I intend to use as a media centre. It has a mod chip installed and the original hard drive. I have a spare 100gb Western Digital drive which I hope to install.
The current state of the box is:
Modchip: Executer 2
Dash: Evolution X Version V+3935
Bios X24981-06
Kernel: 1.00.4980.06
I have read loads of tutorials about swapping the hard drive wtc and have got a bit confused cos there are so many and they are all a bit different and possibly outdated etc. They have brought up questions that I haven't found the answers to yet.
There is nothing on the retail hard drive that I want to keep eg backups, or game saves etc. SO this should be fairly simple right?
As I am basically starting from scratch, is it as easy as just putting the disc in and running one of the autoinstallers? Do I still need to run the back up option in Evo-X and FTP the contents of the C: and E: to my computer?
I have been a bit confused by some of the tutorials that have wanted me to edit parts of the EVo.ini file. Do I have to do this if I use one of the autoinstallers?
Also I am a bit confused about the network settings. Currently the Xbox has a fixed IP address, which is how it came from the person I got it from. This should be fine for the time being as I have a hub with which I can connect it to my main computer, and will hopefully be able to connect nice and easily.
However in the next few weeks, I will be purchasing a Broadband Router, which will I believe use DCHP, how do I got about changing settings on the xbox? Do I have to reinstall Evo-X from scratch again with a suitably editted evo.ini (or whatever it's called)
Also, once I have installed the new drive, I intend to set it up so that XBMC is booted automatically, I believe this can eb set up by FTping files across to the box from the comp right?
Sorry if this is all stupidly easy, I've just goe round and round in circles reading the different tutorials I've found and got a bit confused.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Click on the AIDeluxe link at the top of the page. Download AID 3.10. With that, you will be able to set up your hdd and install all the nessesary apps to make your xbox a media center. XBMC can be installed as a dashboard.
Read the manual that is included in the download.
It will explain how to create the AID disc and how to install what you need.
Once you load xbmc, set up your network. It will be easier if your set the ip addresses to static (fixed). You'll have to input the dns server, workgroup and gateway.
There are networking tutorials to help you. You can find them in the tutorials section here.

Am I right in thinking that cos I have a mod chip I don't need to do any of the backing up of the eeprom and transfering it to my PC stuff???
What happens if for some reason I want to lock the hard drive, Will I be able to do this if I've not got the eeprom infobacked up? Does the mod chip take care of this?
Can I alter network settings on the xbox via the software rather than having to do it be editing setup files?
Does it matter what BIOS i have on the chip? Do I need to upgrade to the newest one, and how do I know if it'll work with my chip?
Sounds like it should be nice and easy to do as the hard drive will just need to be plugged in then AID booted and I can go from there.
The networking tutorials seem fairly simple.

Yes. But it's always a good idea to do so.

You can always read the eeprom possibly with your modchip and with app on AID.

Yes, you can change them in the xbmc settings.

Sometimes. Some have partition size limits. In your case it doesn't matter. Also certain apps run better with a particular bios. I personally like the x2 v4983.67 bios. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

This makes it seem like it's very easy to do.
I'll give ftping the xbox a whirl this eve, if I can get that working, I'll backup the eeprom stuff to my computer, then it should be fairly simple to perform the task.
One other question, The hard drive has some info on it from when it was in my computer, I shall backup the stuff I want, so it will all be ok to delete, do I have to then do anything else to the hard disk before I put it in the xbox, ie format it or anything???

No. The xbox has a different file system, so the hdd will be formated on that end. I'm not savvy with the xecuter chips, but it may recognize the foreign file structure on the hdd and try to format it. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS
