I have a modded Xbox with a large HDD and want to use it as a media center so I tested XBMC yesterday. My question is if I somehow can use the Xbox to connect, via internet, to my FTP server and watch the films I have stored there?

No. If you have a large HDD right in your XBOX, why not copy them down locally? Even if the movies were local to you network you would be fine.

Yes you can do this, I currently have mine set up for the vip iceQ server. Fill in the normal ftp login information under the ftp network share information in your xboxmediacenter.xml file. Note: if you do not know how to edit xml's, then don't. Screwing it up can and will fubar your xbox.

I am not sure if you could view them on the fly, but I can watch videos over my smb share.

I think thats what his question was...can I watch videos connected to an FTP server over the internet. Without copying those videos into your internal network, you would have a hard time watching any kind of quality videos. With a large drive installed in the xbox anyway, why bother?

Oh, I see now that I could be more clear in how I express my question! But the answer iblayzit is more to the answer I am looking for. I dont really want the movies to be streamed to the Xbox, but if that works its ok too, I want to access them on the FTP server (not on my LAN but accessible via internet) from the Xbox and download them to the Xbox HDD so I can view them. Since the FTP is quite large, I cannot fit the content on the Xbox HDD so I just want to download whatever I want at the moment.

Your xbox can do that. Check your XML file or post it here with the ftp info and I will edit it for you.
