OK, I'm new here, never opened up an Xbox before...but I am a computer tech, so I'm sure it's probably not much different than what I'm used to.
I really just want to add the DVD Playing function to my XBox, but I don't see spending ~$30 on JUST the stupid remote...
So, I'd rather get a ModChip and mod my XBox...I already have a confirmed SeaGate Barracuda 120GB EIDE drive ready (brand new in the box)
So, little help to get started would be great.
Thanks!!

if you don't want to spend money you can softmod it its as good as a chip i recommend getting aid from the downloads on this site 3.10 is the newest one all you need is one of 3 games mechassault splinter cell or 007 not Sher which 007 i use mechassault when i mod you can get ma for around 2.99 at gamestop but you need the first edition of the game not platinum then you will need a memory unit you can make one out on a thumb drive and a converter easily made from a brake away and a usb extension cable you will need the female end cus you will want to be able to plug the thumb drive in to the xbox there's tut on all this and more read and find what suits you besides if all you want is to play dvds you can get the remote used for 10 at gamestop but if you want to stream stuff from your computer a mod is the way to go _________________

Actually, I just read the tut and feel stupid for posting.
I'm going to probably go with a Xenium Solderless and then put the XboxHQAIAutoInstaller on it, and then change the dashboard and go from there.
Thanks for the tip on GameStop though, for the SoftMod, I never even thought about that!

the next thing you have to do after installing the Xenium is flashing the bios. make sure you read up on how to flash it and what bios you need, not sure which bios that can support. I have an Xecuter, Lil' more expensive but worth it to me.. and after you get the bios on there get AID3.10 its the newest version and its supported by XBOX-Hq.. and you can install all the dashboards from there. if you install XBMC, which is the best so far, it already has DVD support. so pop in a dvd and go, and with a chip its super easy to upgrade your HD with the AID disk..

Exactly, and I personally think XBMC is the best looking dashboard...cleanest, at least.

Forahobby,
You sound like you know what youre talking about. I could use some advice on trouble shooting my v1.6 that i tried to mod with a xenium 24K. After rebuilding the LPC, installing tthe pin header (with pin 4 removed) I get teh flashing red circle of death (no video/audio) I've removed everthing from the mobo and still the same. I've seen some forums mention a recovery DVD, would this work? And if it would, how do you do it?
Sorry to be lenghty, but I need help!
