how do you tweak the dvd rom to read the discs...

I have a philips drive and a thomson drive....

The philips drive use to read burnt disc.

And the thomson is crapping out on me....

will this tweak allow a thompson drive to read other brands of disc cos the box i got for my girl has a thompson init and its poo!

mines tweaked and it will read everything I throw at it, and if the tweak dont work, that would mean the laser needs replacing.
